Faith in a Time of Pandemic – Make a Joyful Noise! July 5, 2020

C.
Make a joyful noise.
(7/5)
Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth. Worship God with gladness, and come into God’s presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God, and that God made us, and we are God’s. (Psalm 100:1-3. Read Psalm 100 in its entirety.)

On the hundredth day of these daily reflections, it is appropriate to focus on Psalm 100. On this hundredth day of our pandemic reflections, we can affirm that life is more expansive and God more expansive than this pandemic. We can make a joyful noise, joining with all creation to celebrate this good earth. We can come into God’s presence with singing.

The pandemic did not make us, nor will it destroy us. God made the universe. God evolved a beautiful universe. We are God’s; we don’t belong to the pandemic.

On this hundredth day, let us put first things first. Let us place God in the center of our lives, knowing that whether we live or die in this time of pandemic, we belong to God. Moreover, in this time of protest, of challenge of inequality, we all belong to God and deserve to be treated as God’s beloved children.

Let us celebrate life. Let us be prudent in responding to the pandemic, Let us celebrate our diversity and honor our unity. For God is our beloved creator.
