Trouble Finding Inspiration Lately?
Have you considered looking to your routine? Two foundational scriptures are the basis of my thoughts for this theme today – Proverbs 31 and Luke 14:28,29. We’ll start with Jesus words in Luke 14:28. Although it is specifically talking about the goal of discipleship (highlighted in verse 27), it hones in on the keyword “perseverance”- the key detail needed for commitment. Travel with me towards verses 28 and 29, our key scriptures. You identified your goal and analyzed the steps, you’ve even established your routine. Its just that you didn’t expect to hit that brick wall and burnout so soon.
Our second verse highlights the “capable” wife found at Proverbs 31:10-31. She is described as efficient, effective and productive because of her routine. Have you noticed that she is easily the picture of a modern woman balancing family and career? Her success is that she has a wash, rinse, repeat pattern and she does it with heart.
With so much going on in both scenarios, whether single or married, its easy at some point to lose inspiration and drive. We may wonder where can we draw inspiration from to get the next step?
The key however is right there as outlined in Luke 14:28,29 and Proverbs 31:10-31. You’ve detailed the steps, you’ve started the practice, so commit to the routine. In doing so, you’re one step ahead just stay on the path of persistence.
Momentum and Inspiration Build Through Routine
We’ve all been there. Especially writers. We get burned out because we meet with rejection and live with doubt. There are only so many external sources a person can go to for inspiration. At some point, unless you’ve established a regular schedule with a built-in routine of how and when nothing will get accomplished and your dreams will just remain as unfulfilled ideas. As Jesus says, you’ll be left with an unfinished project. You have to get in and do the work. Repetitive work. It’s one of wash, rinse, repeat.
Once you get in and get your hands busy the light bulb comes on and you find that inspiration comes. Soon you will find that momentum builds and this formula is like clockwork. So much so that its called by many names by countless others who have found success by it – the “flow,” the “hum” and even “synchronicity”. Things fall into place.
You will begin to look forward to your routine and when the lull hits again, you push through. This is not only about productivity but life management. Life can be simultaneously chaotic and mundane. By establishing what matters to you and determining how you are going to achieve what you desire, you control your destiny and the reality you experience. Its your garden after all.
How to Build Your Success Strategy: Identify Your Role, Goal, Routine and Schedule
Take a title, pick a goal. Break that title or goal into steps and duties. Most likely you’ll realize that you need a schedule. For a basic schedule, look at each day of the week (if you are breaking it up weekly), and decide when you will complete a step and a time schedule as to when you want to meet certain goals and objectives. Make sure you prioritize yourself, your time with God and your mental health. Pick a personal goal along with regular household duties. It seems that God provided evidence of this with the capable wife. She managed household duties while being able to sell outside of the home and she showed evidence of having a regular schedule by waking up at the same time daily to begin her routine.
In today’s world, with expansion of technology and social media, its easy to be distracted away from our priorities and drained by what we see online. So its essential to hold ourselves accountable to sticking to our routine. There should be an end goal we are working towards with step goals in between that we are meeting. Go ahead and celebrate those milestones along the way!
Your Routine Is Your Individual Success Code
The bright spot is that its all up to you and its designed for you specifically. This is the time when you compete and measure up against your highest ideals so dream and reach high. Expect that lulls come in intervals and know the formula is to push through by doing the routine anyway. Have faith in the routine you’ve vetted, persevere by going through the process you’ve outlined, and know that by doing the work momentum will build, inspiration will come and eventually success will find you.
