The human fascination with the spirit world includes the notion that spirits are “out there,” distant and far from us, or behind hidden locked doors that make it difficult to communicate with the unseen. This view prevents many from recognizing the communications from spirits that occur in their lives daily. They are around us always, and it is our focus on the material world, the world of “concrete” things, that blinds us to their presence and makes their presence, when... Read more

Introducing my new advice column, to be posted weekly on Fridays at 4PM. If you have a problem or situation you need advice on, send it to me at [email protected] and I’ll post my response here.   “How do you know if you’re a witch? What is the difference between a spiritual experience and a spiritual gift? How can you be sure if you have a gift? For example, a lot of times when I see people, whether it’s in person... Read more

While scrolling on Facebook this past week I saw an article announcing that Sephora, the cosmetics company, will be selling “entry level witch kits just in time for Halloween” made by brand Pinrose. It’s a little reminiscent of Death Becomes Her in the sense that these kits include perfume (elixir of life?) along with sage, tarot cards, and a rose quartz. Despite the mixed reviews (yes, I read the comments) this action by Sephora is an act of appropriation. More... Read more

The purpose of an ancestor altar isn’t to worship the ancestors, but to honor them as the ones who came before us and gave us life, to remember them, and work with them. We are the trees and the ancestors are the roots from which we gain strength and protection. Returning to our roots is important, especially for those of us living in America who have been long divorced from our original lands where our people dwelt. So many walk... Read more

Psychology and spirituality should ideally work together for the benefit of all humanity. However, it’s not as common in experience as one would hope. While I am not a new age practitioner (I am a witch but I am not new age), I encounter many people who have been harmed by new age teachings about what it means to be spiritual, the most prevalent of which is the ideal of being “totally positive,” “fully in the light,” and “high vibration.”... Read more

To say that being an empath is a bit of a trend nowadays would be an understatement. I see online quizzes about how to determine if you’re an empath, lists of traits, and more circling around social media and other avenues. Most of the quizzes and literature I’ve seen to “identify” if you’re an empath have a lot of false information. Chances are, most of the people claiming to be empaths are not actually empaths. This post is all about... Read more

This past weekend I traveled down south to Mobile, Alabama for the first annual Hoodoo Queen Conjure Fete hosted by Co Meadows. This entire trip was spiritually arranged and supported, from finding the right plane tickets at an affordable price, to the constant affirmations I was receiving from the world around me. My friends and family were a mix of supportive and uncertain about the trip and what it would mean for me. As I approached the Carnival Museum where... Read more

This article was originally written for and published in Witch Way Magazine– another publication for which I write. Cardamom is a lusty herb with properties we can benefit from in both magical and mundane ways. Whether you’re looking to specie things up in the bedroom, attract love, or improve heart health, cardamom has the mojo you need. Cardamom is a member of the ginger family, adding a hint of spice to many culinary dishes and is often a staple of... Read more
