I wish I had a story about The Sun card, but truth is it’s always seemed to good to be true. There is something of a temporary happiness to it, that I never can quite take it seriously. It never feels real. This may be my projections, or the transient nature of happiness itself. Maybe it’s about the success we don’t quite celebrate fully, or the abundance we half acknowledge, or the joy we take for granted when we feel... Read more

Tomorrow’s new moon occurs in Leo at 4:47AM and there not everything is what it seems. If you’ve been juggling many things, it will all come to a head with this new moon. It’s time to see what goes and what stays. You can make something out of the chaos if you’re willing to believe in the impossible and check your expectations at the door. Everything is subject to change at the last minute, without warning, and if you’re able... Read more

Admittedly, when I decided to write about this card and assign it a song, I didn’t feel enthused. This is one of my least favorite majors despite the rich symbolism it contains.  It’s easy to look at this card and think “seasons, changes, rhythms of life, wheel of the year, blah blah blah” as if you’ve heard it all before and there’s nothing new to see. But there is always something new to see.  What turns the wheel is love. ... Read more

I’d never looked out the window while flying into the sunset and evening time until last night while we flew into Minneapolis from California. I watched as the city of Minneapolis first appeared like gold glitter scattered across a sea of black in a man-made constellation of beauty. As the plane descended colors became clearer, the city lamps and the stoplights and the flashing red and blue of police cruisers distinguishing and declaring themselves. Magical met mundane in a seamless... Read more

When I first discovered The Hanged Man (card 12), I was delighted and enthralled with his mystery. I wanted to know him, to learn his wisdom. He’s so silent, peaceful. And he’s so strange! It’s human nature to want to to “right” things so that they fit what we think they should be. His perspective makes me uncomfortable, maybe because it reminds me that sometimes my own perspective is wonky and that any constructs of a worldview I may have... Read more

I see The Hermit as the ultimate introvert. I don’t associate this card with loneliness at all, instead I associate it with the joy of being totally comfortable with yourself in solitude, therefore present to the moment and able to perceive the messages from the Divine.  Many years ago I worked a stressful job with a lot of internal politics that reminded me of the minefield that is middle school female relationships. I didn’t have very good boundaries, either. I... Read more

Justice is a term I’m not sure many of us understand fully. Many people think of karma in the sense of what goes around comes around (which isn’t actually karma by the way, karma is a state of being) and “getting what you deserve.” These concepts of justice are actually closer to vengeance. Justice rights wrongs with the end goal of reconciliation, not punishment.  My view of justice is very much informed by my studies of Christianity and the works... Read more
