Quoting Quiverfull: Pat Robertson’s Predictions For 2013

Quoting Quiverfull: Pat Robertson’s Predictions For 2013 December 30, 2012

QUOTING QUIVERFULL is a regular feature of NLQ – we present the actual words of noted Quiverfull leaders and ask our readers: What do you think? Agree? Disagree? This is the place to state your opinion. Please, let’s keep it respectful – but at the same time, we encourage readers to examine the ideas of Quiverfull honestly and thoughtfully.

Pat Robertson of Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN),  Regent University and the Regent University School of Law. Every year Pat Robertson gives a list of “words of knowledge” supposedly from the Lord about the coming year. Here is a condensed list of what he actually said on ‘The 700 Club’ from the blog ‘Jesus Needs Money’

  • The country is in great peril
  • It will come a financial reckoning, debts called in, money devalued, people on fixed incomes will suffer. Creditors will seize assets to pay back debts.
  • It will be a time of great turmoil.
  • God says to get out of debt and hold all your purchasing to a bare minimum to prepare for those times.
  • God’s glory will shine everything. Many will turn to God and many will curse and revile God.
  • It will be a time of great division with the worse rebellions and turmoil ever seen before.
  • It will be a time of miracles and favor for CBN but very tough of people who don’t know God and live in the world.

Hasn’t the things on that list been said over and over for years?

It’s just like astrology, where the predictions are so vague or so inevitable (creditors have been seizing assets as payments for debts for literally thousands of years. They’re not going to stop any time soon!) that, at the end of 2013, there will be things that he can point back at and say “see, I was right!”

It’s also interesting that he mentions the groups “CBN” and “people who don’t know God” as if people either followed his brand of Christianity, or didn’t follow God at all. There’s no middle ground for people who do believe in God but not his specific God.

Oh yeah, give Pat Robertson and CBN everything you’e got and everything will be just wonderful. For Pat Robertson, who living off of the poor suckers he keeps scamming in the name of The Lawd.

Yes, they have. Same rubbish different year.

  • Flora Kitty

My error, I meant to write, “Yes, they are.”

Bleah — a hard year for the little people who don’t have a lot of money, but a fabulous year for the likes of CBN, and a really great year for the rich backers who have made money off those little folks who support CBN. For part two: advice — spend as little money as possible because that will really help the economy grow, and enable the Suckers — ahem — viewers to send of their money to support the likes of Robertson and CBN.

  • Posted this because I am always so amused by Pat’s end of the year predictions. He always gets it so wrong! After the political elections this fall he was forced to admit he’d gotten it wrong. One of his other things he said for 2012 was that by the end of the year some huge terrorist attack would happen that would destroy most of the infrastructure of the US so everyone stockpile food and weapons. I have a friend that believes every word from his mouth and has stockpiled over 3500 bucks worth of dehydrated foodstuff he was hawking on his show. I’d say his prediction for US destruction is pretty worthless even if there are roughly 14 more hours before 2013 arrives. For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone takes him seriously any longer.

Anybody ever read Frank Schaefer’s book about being an evangelical insider? In one he describes being in the make-up room of the 700 Club and Pai was there along with his co-host (African American man whose name escapes me). At any rate Pat was talking about coming out of his house & encountering a snake. Kills it, I think. But then the story took a turn. Suddenly there were a multitude of snakes, all of whom were a sign from God to fight evil–I mean dozens of snakes on Pat’s lawn, car, etc. His co-worker kept saying,”Amen” and “Praise God” while Frank Schaefer sat gape mouthed.

Then Pat said that the snakes weren’t ACTUAL snakes, but serpentine visions.

I’ll bet both his & James Dobson’s predictions are like those snakes-in-a-Mercedes type things. They want to see evil and doom and want others to see it too. Even if it only exists in their paranoid, well-off minds.

Televangelists disgust me and Pat Robertson is at the head of the pack. HOW can anybody take this clown seriously? Everytime he opens his mouth, something absurd comes out of it. As far as his “prophecies” go, all I can say is “puh-leeze”. I’ll bet there will be wars and earthquakes in divvers places, too. I’d have more faith in the astrology column in the newspaper. It boggles my mind that people actually believe this crackpot, but stupid is as stupid does, as Forrest Gump said.

  • Sam Wright

Very sad. CBN is all about prosperity…for CBN. I love how Pat says “it will be a time of miracles and favor…for CBN.” How egotistical can you get!

■”It will be a time of great division with the worse rebellions and turmoil ever seen before”
Pat doesn’t seem to be the only person receiving this prophesy. A few other evangelicals have made similiar claims. I suppose time will reveal the truth.
I am in no way a prophet or claim to hear from God concerning what the future of America holds. However, one simply needs to pay attention to domestic and international affairs to ascertain that on a long enough timeline…things will get worse for America and worldwide. We have transfered from the Industrial Age to the Information age. So devaluation of the American dollar is almost a certainity. Countries like China, India and Russia are vying to become the next economic super power and the U.S. debt is one of the ingredients serving as a catalyst. The devaluation of the American dollar can seem like a far fetched idea, however, if the above countries figure out how to replace the petrodollar with another currency, then the American dollar will rapdily devalue. It doesn’t take much of an imagination to see how that would negatively effect this country. Of course, the poor would be hit the hardest.
Is Pat hearing from the Lord? I suppose time will tell.

Pat is a lost cause, but maybe some of you would like to read a book titled, “The Better Angels of our Nature,” by the noted linguist, Steven Pinker. (You can also catch lectures by him on YouTube, just search his name). In his book, he outlines hard data proving that we are in a time of unparalleled peace — that there’s really never been such a time of non-violence in human society. This seems counter-intuitive when you hear about all the strife and fighting, but it’s actually demonstrable fact. We’re better off now than we used to be. Pat is wrong about this, Pat has been wrong about this, and Pat will continue to be wrong about this.
