The Gender Issue January 30, 2013

by Wendy Leifeld

(Editor’s note: The link for this article came into my email box (thanks Frank!)  and while it was written & originally published back in 1992 it illustrates the same struggles over gender roles occurring in churches and in society at large.  Issues of gender roles cut across all lines of denomination and culture it seems. Enjoy.)

  • I suppose, being Catholic, the article can’t raise the question of whether the Church is correct in holding to a teaching of headship and submission in marriage– but as I see it, the fact that the article is only against a more extreme form of this doctrine, weakens its overall message.

  • It does weaken the overall message but we’ve not had much on here from the Catholic point of view so I decided it was good to mix it up a little.

  • Persephone

Close to 90% of those teachings and behaviors were what I endured with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ugh.
