Quoting Quiverfull: The Wimpy Christian?

Quoting Quiverfull: The Wimpy Christian? November 7, 2013

by Colin Campbell from his blog Meat For Men

“The wimpy Christian does not feel the convictions that motivate him to cry out to God. This sort of thing is completely foreign to his casual way of thinking. He likes to stay cool, calm and undisturbed. If he attended the prayer meetings, he might feel a little of God’s heart, and what would that do to his smooth, delicate constitution? It may make him feel a trifle uncomfortable about watching his next unclean movie!”

  • They make it so easy to mock and ridicule them. They have this stereotype of what a “real” man is. I suppose I would, if I was still a Christian, fit their stereotype. However, I have met all kinds of men now and I have come to understand that a real man is a person who loves, respects, and accepts those who are important to him His personal characteristics, mannerisms, likes and dislikes have nothing to do with what a real man is. Give me a loving good “wimpy” man any day. Recent revelations from the NFL Miami Dolphins about real man Richie Incognito bullying “wimpy” man Jonathan Martin is a good illustration of what goes on in many of these “manly” churches. A world made up of only men in Colin Campbell’s image would be an empty one because the real men will have killed everyone. 🙂

It’s a cheap laugh, but I’ll take it: the title Meat for Men always makes me think “gay porn.”

I am pretty sure Meat for Men came from the think tank that came up with the name Rainbow Resource Center. If you are not familiar with Rainbow Resource Center they are hands down the one of the largest vendors of homeschooling materials currently in existence. Many are Christian/Patriarchal based materials but some items are more mainstream. The first time I went to a homeschooling convention I honestly thought Rainbow Resource was a gay and lesbian bookstore. I had no reason to believe otherwise.

That was my guess too. I don’t suppose they’d appreciate suggestions to rethink their names?..

A “trifle” uncomfortable? This meaty guy makes me picture him raising a pinky while he drinks his tea..

In a way, it’s nice to know that the unrealistic, bullying gender essentialism isn’t just aimed at forcing women into an impossible standard. They bully everyone!

Every time I type the title I giggle and think it’s a dandy title for a gay porn film.
