Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, rational and the best possible solution, in other words 180 degree turn from Debi and friends always all spelling and grammar in the posting is unchanged from the original author.
Okay, on to today’s question:
Okay, I’ve been reading this website for awhile now, and got up the courage to answer a few questions, so I’m going to come out and ask something.
I’m 17 y/o and I feel that God is telling me to go and find a church. I was playing piano for a church for a bit, but then I quit because they got a new pastor who was very unbiblical. Then I moved a couple states over to start college. My parents aren’t big church-y people-they tend to get irritated by that one person who’s a big hypocrite-but my mom says she thinks a church would be good for me, what with all the temptations that come in college and my dad says he’s willing to go with me when I go to a service of a new church so I won’t feel pressured or anything. But I really don’t know where to start. The church I went to was a small non-denominational church. Where I’m living now, all the non-dem. churches are the size of Texas with big light-up screens and huge ads and stuff. I don’t want to go to a mega-church. But I really don’t know what denomination to look at. I tried doing research on the Internet, but it’s so hard to make sense of all the theological twaddle. So, I guess what I’ve been taking forever to ask is what denomination would be right? I don’t want a sermon on why ___ church is wrong, I just want to know what all these denominations MEAN. Aren’t we all Christians? Any help on this would be appreciated. *fyi, I’ve already been to a Lutheran church, because my mom used to be Catholic, then didn’t believe, then became Lutheran, and I was baptized that as a baby, but I didn’t feel that that was where I should be.*
