Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – Stay At Home Daughters? August 24, 2016

AnsweringAnother installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical,  rational and the best possible solution, in other words 180 degree turn from Debi and friends answers. As always all spelling and grammar in the posting is unchanged from the original author.

Stay at home daughters?

I always used to be of the camp that a single girl should stay home and help her family.  Lately though I’ve been questioning that idea–I feel like maybe it’s not enough for me to be home, that I should be involved in an organized ministry, I should be out paying my own rent, taking chargeof my own life. But, on the other hand, maybe it’s faulty thought processing to say that doing that and being in a ministry would be more profitable than being at home.

So, is it legitimate to say that as an adult I need to have my own “life,” my own “thing”- that I need to be independent?  (It’s not that I am unhappy with being at home, it’s that it’s too comfortable and I feel like I’m not being challenged at all.)  Hope this is making sense!

I would greatly appreciate all you ladies’ advice and all your stories…. what have you all done about this?  What are your thoughts?

Can you guess what ideas that the crowd on Debi Pearl’s board came up with? Many of the answers involved others telling her she should stay home, but a few suggested compromises that meet both being at home and doing things. What would you suggest to this young woman?
