Kat Von D: I’m NOT Anti-Vaxx But I’m Concerned About Injecting “Chemicals”

Kat Von D: I’m NOT Anti-Vaxx But I’m Concerned About Injecting “Chemicals” June 15, 2018

Kat Von D had an interesting response to the outrage and massive online debate following her announcement on Instagram that she and her husband wouldn’t vaccinate their baby.

Instead of owning her new position as an anti-vaxx icon alongside Jenny McCarthy, or doing the research that she promised to do in her initial post, Von D decided to defend her decision not to vaccinate while claiming that she is not “against vaccines.” She said in a new Instagram post that they “are NOT anti-vaxxers,” and then repeated a bunch of anti-vaxx talking points.

We are not against vaccines. Just because we have hesitancies and valid concerns about injecting our baby with specific chemicals and toxins does not mean we are anti anything.

As a soon-to-be-parent [and especially as a first-time-mom] I do feel it my responsibility to have questions, and to listen to my motherly instinct to question things, and do my research.

What we have found is that sometimes it isn’t always so black and white.

While we believe medications, including vaccines, are not all bad – we also can’t dismiss the fact that some may not be good for everyone.

My husband @prayers and I are NOT anti-vaxxers. There are plenty of studies that show some vaccinations can work wonders. And there are also studies that show some people [including mothers, and babies] may be more susceptible to vaccine injuries more than others. It’s unfair for anyone to expect me [or any parent] to take the word of the pharmaceutical companies who have much to gain from and industry worth billions without question – and then have to dismiss any concerns of my own. Our personal medical records are no one’s business, and why we would feel it important for us to explore all our options when it comes to vaccinating our child, is also no one’s business – regardless of what I post on Instagram. So, perhaps before any of you feel inspired to harass us, spew hatred, or send ill-will our way, I hope you would try and understand that this is our first child together, and we are simply just trying our best. Lastly, I don’t plan on continuing this topic, and have no interest in fighting anyone. As much as I hate doing this, I will be turning off the comments on this post – and I think you would too, if you were constantly receiving death wishes onto your unborn child. I am sending extra love to everyone today. X

Von D starts off strong, saying they aren’t against vaccines, but it turns out she means they aren’t against 100% of vaccines for every person on the planet. She does, however, think it’s smart to skip 100% of vaccines for her child… because some “studies” show it could be damaging. Are these studies peer-reviewed? Do they line up with the scientific consensus? We don’t know because she didn’t cite any.

Von D’s new post seems to follow the anti-vaxx playbook exactly, as she goes on to take on “Big Pharma.”

It’s unfair for anyone to expect me [or any parent] to take the word of the pharmaceutical companies who have much to gain from an industry worth billions without question – and then have to dismiss any concerns of my own.

We aren’t asking you to take the word of pharmaceutical companies; we’re simply saying you should listen to the scientific evidence at hand. If not for the health of the world, then for the health of your child.

Our personal medical records are no one’s business, and why we would feel it important for us to explore all our options when it comes to vaccinating our child, is also no one’s business – regardless of what I post on Instagram.

You heard her. Don’t weigh in on her dangerous decisions because they’re personal… even though she posted them in public to a minimum of 6.7 million followers. That makes sense.

In the end, this is Von D’s decision. But when she posts about it in public, the public gets the opportunity to tell her what a bad choice she’s making.

Von D didn’t like the reasonable pushback she received, so she decided to reject the “anti-vaxx” label while reciting what looks to be a statement written by Jenny McCarthy herself.

So, sorry to break it to you, Kat, but you are definitely an anti-vaxxer.
