Cultural Dead Zones in Paganism

Cultural Dead Zones in Paganism

As diverse as modern Pagan culture is, it’s become apparent to me that we have some “dead zones”, that is, areas where we have not imprinted our mark on something of cultural value.

For instance, where are the Pagan rappers at? We are the mad rhymes about Isis? What you mean we ain’t like this? Our movement’s rising like Horus, so how come there’s no MC before us?

Or stand-up comics? Someone doing a Seinfeld-esque observation about the perils of metaphysical shopping just before Beltane where buying a green, pink or red candle can be taken the wrong way by your fellow shoppers, or someone doing an Eddie Izzard-like parody of Pagan traditions (clever domination by Books of Shadows, or cakes and ale or death…).

Not exactly Andre 3000 but I love the enthusiasm!

What about our own webisode series? Polyamorists have one and so do online gamers, so where are the shenanigans of a group of Pagans in the big city? Seriously?

Not to mention we have no Dear Abby. If your boyfriend is Asatru and wants to start hosting Havamal readings in your apartment on Wednesday night but that’s when your women’s circle meets, who do you turn to for advice? Sure, it’s silly, but I’d read it.

What are the cultural “dead zones” in Paganism you’d love to see filled?
