Your Pagan Family

Your Pagan Family

Really the idea of creating non-biological family is nothing new and pretty prevalent in this day and age, but Paganism almost has this as a core tenet. We tend to create family as easily as we breathe, and this is a marvelous thing. Although, it is a sad truth that so many of us do not have a biological family that accepts us, which spurs us to create alternative forms of family to fill that void.

I’m in Houston right now visiting Dave of the Pagan Centered Podcast and while here I’ve been thinking about created family. I consider Dave family. He’s one of the many people I have met over the course of the year who I would help move. That’s one of my key definitions of family. If I will agree to help you move without hesitation then you are family. It’s amazing the number of people that I am friends with in the Pagan community that I feel that sort of kinship to.

We are family without labels or titles. We’re not uncles, cousins, grandparents, or any other sort of order and hierarchy. We are simply kin. We accept and embrace each other as we are, and encourage each other to grow and succeed. We are there for each other. We speak truth to each other. We laugh together for hours. We can sit in silence together and be at peace.

I will be the first to admit I’m not the best “kinfolk” to have. I have a good many faults, the worst being overcommitting myself and then letting people down. Yet I wanted to take a moment to thank all my chosen family. I love all of y’all and appreciate your presence in my life.

Take a moment today to let your chosen family know you appreciate them. Give them a hug, give them a call or send them a note.
