Mercury retrograde is not kind to me today. Enjoy some music. I’ll be back to blathering on tomorrow. Read more

Yesterday geek icon Felicia Day shared an article by Tara Tiger Brown on Forbes. She wanted feedback on the article and I felt compelled to comment. Not a “me too!” but an actual thoughtful comment. The point I was trying to make is that style is replacing substance in geekdom, and nowhere is that more obvious than in the expectations of geek girls. Felicia Day’s projects sell merch through Jinx which, like many sites that cater to geeks, have only... Read more

Cara Schulz Hung Out With Gary Johnson Yup, a presidential candidate hung out with a Hellenic polytheist for a day. Could you imagine Ross Perot hanging out with Selena Fox? Me neither. Cara has written about the experience over on PNC-MN and it’s worth a read. Even if you don’t agree with his politics, it’s refreshing to read something political without it being full of “God! Gays! Abortion!” The Wild Hunt Has A Podcast Jason has created a weekly podcast... Read more

When we were talking about Pagan temples awhile back it struck me how many of the commenters seemed entirely blind or dismissive of the needs of those who have a medical disability or impairment. I was going to write a big post on it, but it’s a pretty day and I need to get some offline sunshine. Think about all your Pagan ritual experiences. Think about the most typical rituals you’ve attended. Think about the festivals and conferences you’ve attended.... Read more

In Hellenic religion, today is the Deipnon. Part of a 3 day religious observance at the time of the dark and new moon. It’s a time to close up unfinished business before the new moon appears. People pay any remaining bills, respond to all correspondence, donate to a food shelter, make offerings to Hekate, and clean house. I’ve never celebrated the Deipnon before. I’m giving it a shot today, and my roommates are rather serendipitously on board, as they have... Read more

You may be aware that Bristol Palin is writing for Patheos. You likely have an opinion regarding it. I’ve gotten a few of your opinions, some rather strongly worded. I’ve had a range of opinions myself on the subject, but once the idea soaked in, I was fine with it. Here’s why: 13. She’s A Troll Magnet We bloggers loathe trolls. They are the bane of our existence. The Palins are so polarizing that there’s a chance that Bristol might... Read more

People ask me to attend a lot of events. I have to decline a lot. I just don’t have the funds to travel. This year I missed out on PantheaCon, but, far more heartbreakingly, I won’t be able to attend Pagan Spirit Gathering. I could attend technically, but it would mean eating ramen for a couple of months and putting off needed car repairs. Traveling to Pagan events like this is expensive, and I don’t make a lot of money... Read more

In the veiling story I wrote yesterday I did not identify myself explicitly as a journalist to the women I spoke to privately. Mainly because I didn’t intend to write a story about veiling. I did not out anyone in my story or paint any person in an unfair light. I did not directly quote anyone who had not made public statements regarding veiling on other sites. No one was harmed by my article to my knowledge, and only benefit... Read more

In response to my post on veiling yesterday someone responded that in ancient times veiled women were unable to participate in civic life. That is wrong. People with vaginas were unable to participate in civic life, whether or not they wore a veil. There are a lot of Pagans out there studying ancient practices and seeking ways to revive them in the modern world. Women in particular are interested in finding ways to take the best of ancient practice and... Read more

[I apologize for the length of this post. You might want to save this for later if it’s too long to read on a phone or on a lunch break.] You can’t move an inch within Paganism without stumbling across paradoxes, anomalies, or just things that make you tilt your head to the side and ponder. We are a diverse and wonderfully strange people. Within our our small minority (in relation to world religions)  there exist myriad majority/minority distinctions. It... Read more
