Sometimes Goddesses just come into being, and sometimes they reach out, grab you by the scruff of the neck and demand you pay attention. One of my favorite movies of all time is Sabrina. Bogey and Hepburn are great, but it’s the remake with Julia Ormond that sweeps me away into a tale of transformation and love. There are many moments in the film that captivate me, including Harrison Ford looking completely lost and lovelorn towards the end, but the... Read more

Please take a moment to read this call to action from Peter Dybing: Some may wonder how all this has been accomplished? Do we have unlimited funds like the big NGO’s? No in fact 100% for Haiti struggles along on a budget of $1,000.00 per month. Yet, today the world has turned its eyes from Haiti, appeals for funds go unanswered while millions of dollars sit unused in the accounts of Major NGO’s. With an additional 140 students in our... Read more

I’m taking a day off blogging to get some non-blogging work off my plate. So enjoy this clip of Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather. Are Honor, Justice and Mercy lies? Are they the fantasy we have created? Read more

Since something as fabulous as Agora is rare and The Wicker Tree seems likely to be disappointing, I’ve been absently daydreaming about what kind of Pagan films I would make if I were a wealthy and powerful movie studio executive. Sulla Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix is one of my favorite Roman historical figures and one of those extraordinary people who become so famous they’re known by a single name, like Madonna or Pavarotti. Twice consul, he marched on Rome twice... Read more

I had planned to wax eloquent on metaphysical subjects today, but I haven’t slept well in a few days and the words will not come. I’m quite content to daydream about my pillow and blankets and stare into space. For some reason, Cicero is on my mind today. My mother used to call my siblings and I “Cicero” because it’s a fun name said with a Georgia accent and rhymes with words like know and go. My first introduction to... Read more

In the midst of my running around today (I seriously need clones) I saw this news story. At least 10 people were killed when three bomb blasts rocked a busy market in Iraq’s capital on Sunday where people were shopping for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, police sources said. Attacking people celebrating a holy day? Not cool. My thoughts are with Baghdad today, and I hope most Muslims are able to celebrate the Eid in peace today. Read more

Today I woke early and with friends ventured out to the Dekalb Farmer’s Market, which may be one of the coolest things in Atlanta. We were in search of spices rare and exotic (nutmeg) and herbs heady and sacred (sage). We came back laden-down with tarragon, paprika, cinnamon, ginger, rosemary and other culinary delights at a fraction of the price of the grocery store herbs and spices. I admit, I feel a bit rich with bags brimming with colorful, pungent... Read more

An interesting conversation came out of my post on belief yesterday and I’d like to briefly touch on it. It’s nothing new that many Witches adamantly deny that the Gods are to be worshipped but rather they are equals, allies, friends or even tools. I don’t agree with this but I do get a bit peeved when it’s suggested “real” Witches don’t worship the Gods or that it’s a “Wiccan thing,” with the implication that anything “Wiccan” is somehow less.... Read more

I was chatting with my High Priest yesterday about how there is no one true Paganism, and why it is trad Craft practices the way it does. I hit on an idea in that conversation I’d like to expand on, and I’d love reader feedback on it because it may be a bit controversial and I may put my foot in my mouth trying to unpack the idea. All Pagan traditions practice differently. Some are stricter than others regarding practice.... Read more

Hospitality is the foundation of Paganism. Reciprocal relationships, maintaining the right order of things, Ma’at, the mos maiorum, harmony: whatever you call it, hospitality is key in nearly every Pagan religion, ancient or modern. This I believe. Down here in the South hospitality is simply called manners, and manners are a big deal in the South. While we seem to have made a virtue out of being a bitch in this day and age, it’s not getting us anywhere and... Read more
