We are so excited to launch the new Spirituality Channel at Patheos.  Somewhat sentimentally, we are launching this channel on Patheos’ 3rd birthday.  It has been an amazing 4 years for us as Patheos has become all we hoped for and more.  I began the Perspective of a Seeker blog back in June of 2009 when everyone on staff blogged — on some days just to have some content to put on the site. I am re-posting my first blog... Read more

On Monday, my baby, Macklin, started kindergarten.  So Sunday night bedtime was a time to reflect on how big he was getting and how brave he is to be going to school.  And of course, Mack got to pick the song for him and Jacob at bedtime.  I have been singing to the kids at bedtime since they were small and I dare say it is as much for me as for them.  But they do still ask for songs... Read more

I am a generally hopeful person — at least I think so.  I manage to look at most situations and see potential, believe there is good, and imagine that each new opportunity is just around the corner.  I do believe that is a blessing and that not everyone comes at it quite that way.  The down side of what is sometimes called my “optimism” is a terrifying sensation when I cannot feel that optimism.  Or as it should be called, the... Read more

It is the season of graduates.  I still have incredibly fond memories of the times in my life tied to graduations.  It is a bittersweet time of great anticipation. Now as a mother, I am getting to live all the new beginnings and sad endings with my children. My youngest son Macklin is about to “graduate” from preschool and make his way to Kindergarten.  Of course, I think he is adorable and so brave.  He is becoming such an interesting... Read more

A number of years ago, I was in a bible study with some of my most closest friends.  It was a group of couples deeply committed to their faith and wanting to connect — I lost all those friends in my divorce — but that is another blog. I have a very vivid memory of one particular study that we did on the “Fruits of the Spirit'”.  A deeper reflection on Galatians 5:22. Each of us talked in detail about... Read more

Today marks the official one year anniversary of the launch of Patheos!  On May 5th last year, we officially launched the site.  It was tremendously exciting and also incredibly scary, our vision was live out on the internet for the whole world to see.  The summer was hard — really hard — but we emerged in September with some really exciting growth and practical experience on how to make the site relevant. As I sit here one year later, I... Read more

Ok, I admit it. I am a sucker for a big production. I love things like the Opening Ceremonies at the Olympics. I love to get swept up in something beautiful and musical and inspiring. It is good for the soul — to exit your current life for a few minutes and be totally exported to a different world. I was especially excited to see what Vancouver would offer because I had commuted to Vancouver from Denver for more than... Read more

It has been a strange month. With the end of the holidays, and the beginning of my month-long birthday celebration, and lots of time at work, the month has sped by even faster than usual. As you can see from my lack of blog postings, I was not feeling very expressive – I have spent most of the month wandering around in my own mind. I felt at odds and felt like I had more questions than answers, more angst... Read more

In a corner of the convention center, a group of Tibetan Monks are gathered and working on a sand mandala. A mandala is traditionally a circular painting or picture used to aid in focusing attention and meditation. TIbetan monks have taken to creating mandalas through sand painting. They spend hundreds of hours creating an intricate mandala made of sand – placing each grain of sand precisely to create a beautiful work of art. They have created an amazing mandala here... Read more

We thought it would be amazing to get some of the folks here at the Parliament event to volunteer to be on camera and to talk about their faith. Honestly, we were not sure how many people would agree to be videotaped, especially about such a personal topic, and allow it to be posted on the web. Much to our surprise, we have had an overwhelming response. Yesterday, Leo recorded interviews with people from the most diverse backgrounds including a... Read more
