Angry creationists demand equal time on Tyson’s ‘Cosmos’ March 21, 2014

Creationists are unhappy about Neil deGrasse Tyson’s successful revival of Cosmos, claiming the show lacks scientific balance because it fails to provide airtime for their discredited, alternative theory to evolution.

Right Wing Watch reports the Creationist group Answers In Genesis is incensed about Neil deGrasse Tyson’s worthy reboot of Carl Sagan’s original Cosmos, angry because the program fails to provide airtime for Creationism. The group is demanding that airtime on the program be set aside for their pseudo scientific theory.

Appearing Thursday on “The Janet Mefford Show,” Danny Falkner, of Answers In Genesis,  complained about the Fox television series and its host, Neil deGrasse Tyson:

Lamenting the fact that “Creationists aren’t even on the radar screen for them, they wouldn’t even consider us plausible at all,” Falkner angrily accused Tyson of marginalizing those with dissenting views on accepted scientific truths.

Mefferd agreed, also complaining that the show isn’t being very fair and balanced: “Boy, but when you have so many scientists who simply do not accept Darwinian evolution it seems to me that that might be something to throw in there, you know, the old, ‘some scientists say this, others disagree and think this,’ but that’s not even allowed.”

“Consideration of special Creation is definitely not open for discussion it would seem,” Faulkner added.

Although Creationists are unhappy that their religious superstition, posing as a legitimate scientific alternative, is not receiving equal airtime on Tyson’s Cosmos, they should not be surprised. Tyson has repeatedly asked that the news media stop trying to “balance” the debate on scientific issues by humoring people like Creationists who insist on denying established scientific truth.

Evolution is the foundation of  modern biology, and giving Creationists equal time when discussing biology would be no different than giving equal time to the Flat Earth Society when discussing geology. In reality, there is no controversy, and there is no scientific debate: Evolution is accepted science, while Creationism is discredited theology.

Cosmos airs Sunday nights on the Fox broadcasting network at 9 p.m. ET.
