Pokemon makes you gay? Creflo Dollar, the prosperity gospel preacher who hustles gullible Christians for fun and profit, now claims Pokemon was designed to turn kids gay as part of the so-called “gay agenda.”
According to recent reports, Creflo Dollar Ministry has released a “study” claiming that teens of the late 80s and 90s “had their sexuality warped by Ash and his fruity friends,” a reference to Pokemon characters.
Dollar claims the close relationship between the Pokemon characters Ash and Brock was a sign of the cartoon’s “gay agenda.”
Wikipedia reports Pokemon has previously been criticized by some Christians over perceived occult and violent themes and the concept of “Pokemon evolution”, which some feel goes against the Biblical creation account in Genesis
Christians are not the only ones to worry about Pokemon. In 2001, Saudi Arabia banned Pokemon games and cards, alleging that the franchise promoted Zionism by displaying the Star of David in the trading cards as well as other religious symbols such as crosses they associated with Christianity and triangles they associated with Freemasonry; the games also involved gambling, which is in violation of Muslim doctrine.
As for Creflo Dollar, he is no stranger to controversy. The founder of the non-denominational World Changers Church International based in Atlanta, Georgia, Dollar is a controversial figure who preaches the prosperity gospel, a doctrine claiming that donations to Christian ministries like his will always increase one’s material wealth.
Recently the prosperity gospel preacher asked his mostly poor and uneducated congregation to give, give, give, because he needed a new $65 million private luxury jet to do “the work of the Lord.”
After a great deal of bad press, Dollar ended his public campaign for a new jet.
In 2012 the controversial televangelist was arrested for assaulting his then 15-year-old daughter.
Dollar has often been criticized for his lavish lifestyle. According to reports, Dollar has an estimated net worth of $27 million.
