Conservative Christians, some angry about the recent demise of the Confederate flag, are asking that the rainbow flag, a symbol of tolerance and LGBT rights, be taken down because it is supposedly “fascist” and “anti-Christian.”
The rainbow flag,a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride and LGBT social movements, has been in use since the 1970s. However, since the recent great awakening concerning the obvious immorality of the Confederate flag, some angry conservatives have been expressing outrage on social media, claiming Christian are being persecuted by “the gays” and their rainbow flag.
Under the banner of what is dishonestly called a gay pride or gay “rights” flag, hate, fascism, and intolerance has festered for years, specifically against Christians and conservatives.
Nolte goes on to cite supposed examples of Christian persecution, examples which usually translate as Christians being angry after they are prevented from breaking the law and discriminating against LGBT people. (Conservative Christians often seem to be angry when their privilege is disrupted and they are forced to treat LGBT people with common decency.)
While Nolte’s entire argument is facetious and facile, he at least has the good sense to favor removing the Confederate flag from the grounds of the South Carolina Capitol.
However, any credit Nolte may have earned, he throws away by comparing the Confederate flag to the LGBT rainbow flag.Making a similar appeal to the conservative Christian, American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer compared LGBT people to Nazis. Right Wing Watch reports on Fischer’s vile and ill-advised comparison:
If we are going to remove symbols of oppression from our culture, if we come to the point where we say any flag that represents bigotry, any flag that represents hatred, any flag that represents slavery or oppression needs to be removed, then I want to suggest to you that the next flag to go ought to be the rainbow flag of the Gay Reich.
The rainbow flag represents the gay lobby, it represents Big Gay, it represents what I’m calling for the first time today, I’m introducing a new term: the Gay Reich. They’ve got a flag just like the Nazis had their flag.
Bottom line: Some Conservative Christians lack moral judgement, and are unable to distinguish liberation from subjugation.
