Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson argues men should marry girls when they are 15 or 16 years of age.
Currently Robertson is being hailed by Christian conservatives for demeaning and demonizing transgender individuals after his “radical idea” on how to deal with the controversial transgender bathroom bill in North Carolina went viral.
In an email to conservative Christians released earlier this week Robertson wrote:
Men should use the men’s bathroom and women should use the women’s bathroom. Just because a man may ‘feel’ like a woman doesn’t mean he should be able to share a bathroom with my daughter, or yours. That used to be called common sense. Now it’s called bigoted.
Robertson’s mean-spirited ignorance towards the transgender community is not surprising. The Duck Dynasty patriarch has become a popular symbol of Christian hate, often using his Christian faith to justify vile anti-gay bigotry, equating homosexuality to bestiality, and comparing LGBT people with drunkards, thieves, prostitutes, and adulterers.
However, in addition to his anti-trans, anti-gay rhetoric, Robertson also has a documented history of urging men to wed underage girls. Robertson argues that marrying a girl who is not a teenager will only lead to trouble:
Look, you wait ‘til they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16.
You need to check with mom and dad about that, of course.
Apparently Robertson is not concerned with the wishes of the girl, or the law.
Robertson also insists that men should only marry girls who can “cook a meal,” and encourages the man to make sure his child bride “carries her Bible.”
In his book “Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander” Robertson even admits that he married his wife when she was only 15.
Last year the Duck Dynasty star publicly fantasized about the rape and murder of an atheist family, while earlier this year he called on Christians to “rid the earth” of marriage equality supporters while speaking at a rally for GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz.
Bottom line: Robertson slanders transgender people while advocating child marriage. He is a moral monster for Jesus, a leading spokesman for the American Taliban, and a potent symbol of Christian hate.
