A Virginia pastor is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.
Christopher Alan Hogge was arrested Monday, accused of possessing and sharing child pornography.
Hogge is the pastor at Battery Park Baptist Church located in Isle of Wight County. He is also currently employed by the city of Franklin as the Social Services Director.
Hogge was arrested after investigators got a tip that he logged on to a social media account that contained child porn.
After searching Pastor Hogge’s home, and his church next door, investigators report they found more than 3,000 pornographic videos and photos.
According to court documents from December 6 to February 6, Hogge allegedly used social media accounts both at home and with a city work phone in order to share and access child pornography.
ABC reports photos show early and late-stage pubescent girls fully nude and posing in sexual positions.
Lieutenant Tommy Potter with Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office said Hogge regularly works with children in both of his jobs as Pastor and Social Services Director:
He would naturally act with kids every day, and that’s one of our main concerns.
At this time, there is no indication that he was manufacturing any type of child pornography. Just that he was downloading it, possessing it, and distributing it to other people through various web networks.
A concerned neighbor who attended some of Hogge’s church services says Hogge often spent time with children, explaining:
I see at least 20 kids running around here. They have a Sunday school during their church, so he’s always around children. It’s scary, it’s scary because it’s people that you trust and right next door to you.
Hogge has been the pastor at Battery Park Baptist Church since 2001. He now faces eight felony counts of distribution of child pornography. His next court date is schedule for August 1, and he is currently being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
