President-Elect Trump Promises Christian Theocracy

President-Elect Trump Promises Christian Theocracy November 10, 2016

“We will respect and defend Christian Americans” – Donald Trump.

Theocracy alert: On the campaign trail president-elect Donald Trump promised Christians special treatment and consideration if elected president.

Trump made his pledge to work towards a Christian theocracy explicit while speaking to members of the Faith & Freedom Coalition last June. Then candidate Trump promised to “restore faith to its proper mantle” in U.S. society while making a pitch for theocracy at the Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference.

Pandering to the evangelical audience, Trump said:

We will restore faith to its proper mantle in our society. That’s what we have to do. And we have to do that soon. We will respect and defend Christian Americans. Christian Americans.

For emphasis and clarity Trump repeated:

Christian Americans.

In making his case for Christian theocracy, Trump pledged to honor “the sanctity and dignity of life,” and promote “marriage and family.”  The pledge was a not so subtle message indicating that as president Trump would fight to deny a woman’s right to choose an abortion, and fight to deny the right to marriage for lesbian and gay citizens.

At one point Trump declared:

People who go to church, who work and work in religious charities and so forth and share their values, these are the foundations of our society. We will restore respect for people of faith who dutifully raise their children, follow our laws and rules…

At the conference Trump said it’s important to keep “people of faith safe from threats like radical Islam,” insinuating that only Christians are people of faith, and only Christians deserve protection.

Now Trump is president-elect, and he has the opportunity to push his Christian agenda. The following are a issues the Trump administration will be working on to guide the U.S. towards a Christian theocracy:

Like many conservative Christians, Trump has been a consistent opponent of marriage equality, and has promised to appoint Supreme Court judges to overturn the historic same-sex marriage decision.

In addition, Trump has also expressed support for North Carolina’s HB2, he’s said he would rescind the Obama Administration’s guidance that transgender students be treated with dignity and allowed to use restrooms that match their gender identity.

Trump pledges that in his first hundred days he will enact the “School Choice And Education Opportunity Act.” The act redirects education dollars to give parents the right to send their kid to the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home school of their choice.

In essence, the act will force taxpayers to pay for religious education.

Trump supports the so-called First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) which would allow all manner of discrimination based on “sincerely held religious beliefs.”

The First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) is a draconian policy advocated by conservative religious extremists. FADA explicitly promotes anti-LGBT discrimination by providing special protections for people who wish to claim their religious faith prohibits them from performing certain acts, including baking a cake for a same-sex wedding, or allowing a child to be adopted by a same-sex couple.

In addition, FADA sanctions discrimination against single mothers, unwed couples, interfaith couples, and interracial couples. In fact, the policy is so broad that one could refuse to marry two short people if their view against short people marrying is a “sincerely held religious belief.”

However, in reality, FADA is meant as a vehicle to allow Christian conservatives to discriminate against those people they do not approve of and do not like.

Mike Pence

In addition to numerous campaign pledges to advance an agenda moving the nation towards a Christian  theocracy, Trump also selected Mike Pence to be his running mate and the next vice president.

Pence is a cold, cruel, religious extremist who also dreams of a Christian theocracy. Pence is a conservative Christian nightmare who rejects the separation of church and state, and places his Christian faith above the U.S. Constitution. He is an anti-science, anti-women, anti-LGBT, radical Christian extremist. He will be a willing and eager partner in transforming the U.S. into a Christian theocracy.

Bottom line: If you’re not a straight, white, Christian, you’re in trouble under a Trump administration. Buckle up. This is going to get ugly.
