Nashville Statement: Conservative Christians Release Manifesto Of Hate

Nashville Statement: Conservative Christians Release Manifesto Of Hate August 30, 2017

Nashville Statement: More than 150 leading evangelicals release a deplorable “Christian Manifesto” promoting hatred and bigotry in Jesus’ name.

On Tuesday, The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) released the Nashville Statement, a proclamation of 14 affirmations and denials pertaining to conservative Christian beliefs about human sexuality.

In short, the statement is a despicable manifesto of hate aimed directly at the LGBT community. The following are samples from the mean-spirited and intolerant statement.

Marriage is only between a man and a woman:

“WE DENY that God has designed marriage to be a homosexual, polygamous, or polyamorous relationship. We also deny that marriage is a mere human contract rather than a covenant made before God.”

Sexual relations outside of marriage are immoral:

“WE DENY that any affections, desires, or commitments ever justify sexual intercourse before or outside marriage; nor do they justify any form of sexual immorality.”

Accepting or tolerating LGBT people is immoral, “sinful” and “anti-Christian”:

“WE AFFIRM that it is sinful to approve of homosexual immorality or transgenderism and that such approval constitutes an essential departure from Christian faithfulness and witness.”

Biological sex determines gender:

“WE AFFIRM that the differences between male and female reproductive structures are integral to God’s design for self-conception as male or female.”

Transgender people must “forsake” their true gender identity and accept their “biological sex”:

“WE AFFIRM that the grace of God in Christ enables sinners to forsake transgender self-conceptions and by divine forbearance to accept the God-ordained link between one’s biological sex and one’s self-conception as male or female.”

Being gay or transgender is not consistent with “God’s holy purpose”:

“WE DENY that adopting a homosexual or transgender self-conception is consistent with God’s holy purposes in creation and redemption.”

In other words, according to the Nashville Statement, to be a “good Christian” is to hate, disparage, and dehumanize LGBT people.

And while most conservative Christians approve of this despicable attack on LGBT people, not all Christians accept this manifesto of hate, and not all Christians are mean-spirited bigots with hate in their heart for those they do not understand.

In fact, many are disgusted with the conservative Christian manifesto of hate, including Nashville’s Mayor, Megan Berry:

Bottom line: The Nashville Statement is nothing but mean, ugly, ignorant, bigotry – a perfect example of the profound moral failure of conservative Christians.
