Christian hypocrisy: Anti-gay, family values lawmaker resigns after being caught engaging in an “inappropriate” sexual affair with a man in his office.
Ohio state Representative Wes Goodman, a married, anti-gay, anti-abortion, conservative Christian lawmaker who promoted “natural marriage” has announced his resignation from the Ohio House of Representatives over allegations of an “inappropriate” sexual affair with a man in his state provided office.
Goodman’s letter of resignation reads:
Dear Speaker Rosenberger,
Please accept this letter as my resignation as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives effective at 11:59 p.m., today, November 14, 2017.
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the constituents of the 87th House District.
House Speaker Clifford Rosenberger released the following statement:
It is with deep regret that I have asked State Representative Wes Goodman to offer his resignation as a member of the Ohio House. I was alerted to details yesterday afternoon regarding his involvement in inappropriate behavior related to his state office. I met with him later in the day where he acknowledged and confirmed the allegations. It became clear that his resignation was the most appropriate course of action for him, his family, the constituents of the 87th House District and this institution.
After the announcement, Goodman released the following statement:
Goodman, a Republican, was serving his first term representing the 87th district in Ohio. According to reports the “inappropriate” sexual affair with the unnamed male was consensual, and not harassment.
Serving as the state representative for the 87th Ohio House District has been one of the great honors of my life. We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life. That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service. For those whom I have let down, I’m sorry. As I move onto the next chapter of my life, I sincerely ask for privacy for myself, my family, and my friends.
Family. Healthy, vibrant, thriving, values-driven families are the source of Ohio’s proud history and the key to Ohio’s future greatness. The ideals of a loving father and mother, a committed natural marriage, and a caring community are well worth pursuing and protecting.
Life. Human life begins at conception and is to be protected under the laws of God, nature, and the state of Ohio. At the statehouse, this means enacting legislation that reduces abortions. In our cities and towns, this means encouraging communities to provide support and safety networks for single mothers and urging fathers to involve themselves in their families.
Goodman’s story is tragic, but common: A homophobic, conservative Christian, turns out to be a self-loathing gay or bisexual man, living a life of deception, hiding in the closet, and being dishonest with everybody. Such a life must be a terrible burden, and a horrible way to live one’s life.
Bottom line: Another anti-gay, married, conservative Christian lawmaker is exposed as a self-loathing, religious hypocrite. Sad!
