Anti-Science Televangelist Gloria Copeland: Jesus Is Your Flu Shot

Anti-Science Televangelist Gloria Copeland: Jesus Is Your Flu Shot February 3, 2018

Preaching a message of anti-science, televangelist Gloria Copeland declares there is no flu season, because Jesus.

In a deplorable display of ignorance in service of religious superstition, televangelist Gloria Copeland, wife of Texas televangelist Kenneth Copeland, explained to her Facebook followers that there is no such thing as flu season, and that they don’t need to get a flu shot because “Jesus himself gave us the flu shot.”

In the Facebook video Copeland declares:

Listen partners, we don’t have a flu season. And don’t receive it when somebody threatens you with, ‘Everybody is getting the flu.’ We’ve already had our shot. He bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases. That’s what we stand on.

Praying for those who may already have the flu, Copeland proclaimed:

Flu, I bind you off the people in the name of Jesus. Jesus himself gave us the flu shot, He redeemed us from the curse of flu.

The televangelist promised that those who don’t have the flu can protect themselves by simply declaring:

I’ll never have the flu.

Copeland advised:

Inoculate yourself with the word of God.

That’s right, according to this faith-healing televangelist, you can “Inoculate yourself with the word of God,” because “Jesus himself gave us the flu shot, He redeemed us from the curse of flu.”

Wow.

Indeed, the sad fact is that the Texas megachurch run by televangelists Kenneth and Gloria Copeland has a documented history of preaching anti-science, anti-vaccine propaganda, with sometimes devastating and tragic consequences.

Right Wing Watch reports that  in 2013, the Texas megachurch run by the Copelands “was at the center of a measles outbreak that was attributed to the church’s belief that congregants can forego vaccines because Jesus will protect them from illness.”

At the time, the Copelands were presenting the widely discredited idea that vaccines cause autism.

Meanwhile, Texas Public Radio reports:

There have been 2,300 flu deaths in Texas this season, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, and that number is expected to climb.

Bottom line: Preaching a toxic message that is anti-science, and anti-vaccine, televangelist Gloria Copeland declares that there is no flu season, because Jesus.
