Scott Pruitt, head of the Environmental Protection Agency, has resigned in disgrace after being caught in multiple scandals.
Scott Pruitt, the embattled head of the Environmental Protection Agency who was under multiple ethics investigations, has resigned, becoming the fourth cabinet member to leave the Trump administration.
“I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency,” President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday.
As of Monday, Pruitt will be replaced by deputy EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler, who will take over as acting head of the agency…
Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt has resigned after a deluge of damaging revelations about his spending, travel, and a condo rental deal that prompted some Republican lawmakers to distance themselves and question his continued effectiveness.
The EPA’s inspector general, the Government Accountability Office and the White House were investigating allegations concerning Pruitt’s spending on first-class travel and security, his dealings with subordinates and with lobbyists, and other matters.
In addition to the deplorable corruption, Pruitt was also a dangerous anti-science, Christian extremist – a climate-change denier with a record of opposing marriage equality, transgender bathroom access, abortion rights, as well as opposing a church-state separation ballot initiative in his home state of Oklahoma. As head of the EPA, Pruitt based his environmental policy on his “Biblical worldview.” Speaking with the Christian Broadcasting Network earlier this year, Pruitt explained that a “Biblical worldview” informs his views on the environment and environmental policy. In that interview Pruitt said that God commands us to “harvest the natural resources that we’ve been blessed with.”
In addition, previously Pruitt used the Bible’s Book of Joshua as a justification for preventing expert scientists from serving on the EPA’s advisory boards.
Bottom line: Pruitt is a dangerous Christian extremist with no respect for the environment, for women, for the LGBT community, and for the secular values upon which this nation was founded. He has no business in public life, and his resignation as EPA chief is a welcome development.
