Moral failure: A disturbing new poll shows that 48% of white evangelicals would support Kavanaugh even if he did sexually assault Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
Citing data from a recent poll, Vox reports:
Forty-eight percent of white evangelicals say that embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed even if the allegations of sexual assault against him are true.
Friendly Atheist notes:
According to a NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll taken last week, 48% of white evangelical Christians say that Kavanaugh should be confirmed to the Supreme Court even if the charge of sexual assault is true.
Marist asked 1,000 respondents from September 22 to 24 whether they would support Kavanaugh if the allegations by Christine Blasey Ford, who says Kavanaugh assaulted her at a high school party decades ago, were found to be true.
Support for Kavanaugh’s confirmation falls along partisan lines with 12 percent of Democrats and 54 percent of Republicans saying yes. Kavanaugh has consistently denied the allegations, as well as the allegations of at least three other accusers, whose more recent allegations came out too late to be included in the poll.
Aside from the 48 percent who said they would support Kavanaugh’s appointment to the court, 36 percent of white evangelicals say they would not support it, and 16 percent did not have an answer.
The poll results are alarming, and demonstrate a profound poverty of both intellect and character in almost half of all white evangelicals. Yet this moral failure is not much of a surprise.
Leading evangelist Franklin Graham claims the attempted sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was not a crime.
Claiming that Christine Blasey Ford’s accusations of attempted sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh are “irrelevant,” the influential son of the late Billy Graham said that even if Ford’s allegation of sexual assault is true, it shouldn’t matter.
Graham argues that the criminal conduct shouldn’t matter because Kavanaugh “respected” Ford’s objections by breaking off the assault, and not raping the 15-year-old high school student.
Bottom line: A new poll shows that 48% of white evangelicals would support Kavanaugh even if he did sexually assault Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
