The nurse who raped and impregnated a woman at the Hacienda HealthCare facility in Arizona has been identified as Christian rapper Nathan Sutherland.
Arizona Republic reports:
Phoenix police have arrested Nathan Sutherland, a 36-year-old nurse at Hacienda HealthCare facility, alleging he raped and impregnated an incapacitated woman at the center.
CBS News reports:
Sutherland, a licensed practical nurse, worked at the Hacienda HealthCare facility in Phoenix from 2011 until his arrest on Tuesday, CBS News’ Carter Evans reported. He was charged with sexual assault and vulnerable adult abuse in a case involving a 29-year-old incapacitated woman who had been at the facility since she was 3 years old.
She gave birth to a baby boy in December.
According to reports:
Police tied Sutherland to the baby through a court-ordered DNA test administered to employees who had contact with the 29-year-old patient.
As for Sutherland’s Christian affiliation, The Washington Post notes:
His Christian music group, Sleeplessouljaz, rapped inspirational messages in churches and concert halls across the Southwest.
Before going to work at Hacienda in 2011, Sutherland led a quasi-public life. He and his sister formed a Christian rap group called Sleeplessouljaz. According to a biography, they were inspired by a scripture in the sixth chapter of Ephesians, which speaks of wearing “spiritual armor” to protect yourself against the faith-breaking difficulties of life.
Promotional material for the brother and sister Christian rap duo explains:
Nate and T (SLS/SLEEPLESSOULJAZ) were not allowed to listen to any loud or obnoxious music especially rap, whether it was positive Christian or not. Their music, which was a way out and escape to them was never understood by their parents and definitely not encouraged.
Fast forward to 2003 when SLS accepted their calling as ministers and their confirmation of their foundation was established, Ephesians 6: 10-18. Their whole ministry is based on reaching that 1 everywhere they go because 1 person can change multitudes. They were tried and tested to be proven during the birthing (recording) of their 1st album, “Certified Fake Face”.
“It took many years to birth (record) our 1st album, but its finally here and it was worth every dime, sweat and tears” they said. They went through a lot of spiritual warfare (challenges) and life crisis to complete this album. They give all the credit and thanks to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for his hand that was on their life from the beginning.
Speaking in 2011 on his Christian faith Sutherland told an interviewer:
Jesus gave your own mind to you. You have instruction. It’s up to you to decide which way you want to go and stuff. It’s going to be hard. But try not to make excuses for the way you are behaving.
“But try not to make excuses for the way you are behaving…”
Bottom line: A Christian rapper who “rapped inspirational messages in churches and concert halls across the Southwest” has been arrested after raping and impregnating a woman incapacitated for decades.
