The stupid, it burns: President Donald Trump claims the noise from wind turbines “causes cancer.”
Trump, speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual spring dinner earlier this week, made the false claim that noise from turbines “causes cancer” as well making the absurd argument that homes near wind farms will lose 75 percent in value. At the event Trump said:
If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value. And they say the noise causes cancer.
Trump also made the exaggerated claim that wind turbines are like “ a graveyard for birds”:
And of course, it’s like a graveyard for birds. If you love birds, you’d never want to walk under a windmill.
For the record, nobody important is saying the noise from wind turbines “causes cancer.” Reporting on the story for New York Magazine, Jonathan Chait notes:
Wind turbines do not cause cancer. Some people blame the noise for causing a variety of other health ailments, but these charges have zero scientific validity. Cancer is not caused by noises of any kind.
This is not the first time Trump has said something idiotic about wind power. Previously the intellectually challenged Trump claimed that people would have to turn off their TV sets if the wind wasn’t blowing. And at another time Trump said:
When the wind stops blowing that’s the end of your electric.
As one might imagine, people on Twitter were quick to point out Trump’s moronic claims:

It’s just totally weird that the president casually suggest that the noise from wind farms could cause cancer and NO ONE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THIS IN 24 HOURS!

In his 88-minute speech tonight, Trump:
• Twice mocked Biden
• Referred to Green New Deal as the work of a “young bartender”
• Urged Rs to be “more paranoid” about vote counting
• Claimed wind turbine noise causes cancer
• Claimed former VA employees were “sadists”

Bottom line: A willfully ignorant Donald Trump claims that the noise from wind turbines “causes cancer.”
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’
