The stupid, it burns: White House counselor Kellyanne Conway claims Martin Luther King Jr. would oppose the impeachment of Donald J. Trump.
The Hill reports:
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said on Martin Luther King Jr. Day that the late civil rights icon would not support impeaching President Trump.
Kellyanne Conway: “When you see the articles of impeachment, I don’t think it was within Dr. King’s vision to have Americans drag through a process where the president is not going to be removed from office.” #MLKDay https://t.co/CWvImrSrsJ pic.twitter.com/VZk4TM2AzZ

The Daily Beast notes:
Kellyanne Conway on Monday responded to a question on how the president is observing Martin Luther King Day by claiming the civil-rights leader would oppose the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
Conway, speaking before a press gathering at the White House, explained how Trump would be celebrating the MLK holiday, before declaring that she believed King would not support the Trump impeachment. Conway began her remarks by noting:
The President is preparing for Davos and agrees with many of the things that Dr. Martin Luther King stood for and agrees for many years, including unity and equality…
I’ve held my opinion on it for a very long time, but when you see the articles of impeachment that came out, I don’t think it was Dr. King’s vision to have Americans dragged through a process where the president is not going to be removed from office, is not being charged bribery, extortion, high crimes and misdemeanors.
I, this morning, was reading some of the lesser-known passages by Dr. King and I appreciate the fact that we as a nation respect him by giving him his own day.
In short, Conway tried to compare Trump’s impeachment to the injustices Martin Luther King Jr. fought against, while claiming that the civil rights icon would oppose Trump’s impeachment.
As one might imagine, the ridiculous and despicable remarks were met with condemnation on social media:
This is so ignorant that it cannot be anything but deliberately cruel. It’s like blackface on Halloween. You can count on this kind of rubbish every single Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This isn’t merely gross co-option. It angers people, and she knows it. https://t.co/dDifQPqLJG— Jamil Smith (@JamilSmith) January 20, 2020

Message to @KellyannePolls, the queen of alternative facts, on her latest moronic comment. Using truly historic figures to support the lawless crook that you work for only reinforces that you are vile, disgusting, and useless. https://t.co/zV774boyZj

I asked White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway how Trump is observing King Day. Conway said, “Well, I can tell you that the president is preparing for Davos” and she then linked Trump’s impeachment to the kinds of injustice that Dr. King fought against.
