WTHR 13 reports:

Rainbow shirt and cake gets student expelled from private school for ‘lifestyle violation.’

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports:

A Christian school in Louisville expelled a student last week after her family said school officials discovered the girl had celebrated her birthday with a rainbow-themed cake.

According to reports, Kayla Kenney, a freshman at the Whitefield Academy, a private Christian school in Kentucky, was expelled for a “lifestyle violation” after her mother posted a photo to social media showing Kayla wearing a rainbow shirt, and smiling in front of a rainbow themed cake at a local restaurant, where the family had gone to celebrate her birthday.

Discussing the photo, Kayla’s mother, Kimberly Alford said:

She was happy; she looked beautiful. You know, of course as a mom, I took her picture of her blowing out her candles and I posted that on my Facebook page.

However, when staff at the Whitefield Academy were made aware of the photo, Alford received an email from Bruce Jacobson, Whitefield Academy’s head of school, explaining how Kayla was being expelled “immediately due to a post on social media.”

In the letter of expulsion Jacobson claimed the picture “demonstrates a posture of morality and cultural acceptance contrary to that of Whitefield Academy’s beliefs.”

Discussing the letter with Wave 3 the distraught mother said:

It was an email expelling Kayla from Whitefield immediately due to a post on social media. I feel judged, she feels judged, just very devastating for us.

Alford continued:

She loves to laugh and dance and that’s just her. There was nothing intended by that and even when I went back and got the receipt from the bakery, it didn’t say anything about representation, it just said assorted colors.

Alford told The Louisville Courier-Journal that Kayla is not gay and the cake was simply a fun treat, with the bakery receipt listing the design as “assorted colors,” noting:

I just feel like it’s a label (school officials) have put on her. Just because I’m wearing a rainbow doesn’t mean I’m gay.”

Alford added:

You know we teach our kids what would Jesus do. What would he do here?

As for Kayla, she is now enrolled in public school, free from the bigotry and ignorance at the Whitefield Academy.

Bottom line: A conservative Christian school in Kentucky expelled a 15-year-old student for eating a rainbow birthday cake and wearing a shirt with a rainbow design.

The stupid, it burns.
