Like Woodstock, Only With Disease And Jesus: Pastor Jonathan Shuttlesworth has announced he will defy social distancing recommendations and hold a large “outdoor Easter blowout service like Woodstock.”
The controversial pastor, who recently made headlines after claiming that God would spare conservative red states from the Coronavirus, but would use the coronavirus to punish pro-choice blue states that favor abortion rights, says he will host a “national gathering” like Woodstock to “lift up Jesus Christ” on Easter.
Pastor Shuttlesworth said:
I’m gonna announce it. We’re gonna hold an outdoor Easter blowout service. Not online. A national gathering. You come from all over, like Woodstock. And we’re gonna gather and lift up Jesus Christ.

The pastor continued, commenting on his friend, megachurch Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who was recently arrested for demonstrating a “reckless disregard for human life” after holding Sunday services in violation of county orders calling for social distancing. Shuttlesworth said:
I’m not ashamed that Dr. Rodney got arrested. I’m ashamed that when they wanted to arrest preachers for having church, in the entirety of the state, there was only one to come for.
Shuttlesworth seems eager to be a martyr to the cause like his friend Pastor Howard-Browne. And for the record, Howard-Browne was not arrested for “having church.” Pastors and others are free to “have church” on-line. Howard-Browne was arrested because he demonstrated a “reckless disregard for human life” by holding Sunday services during a pandemic.
On social media, people were obviously surprised and agitated by Shuttlesworth’s reckless and dangerous plan for a large Easter service:
These people really don’t care if their congregants die.Right-wing evangelist Jonathan Shuttlesworth says he will hold a giant “Easter blowout service”
And seems to view getting arrested as a badge of honor.

Stupid people have rights!
They should be allowed to have this event & then all be quarantined together after.
Of course the Shuttlesworth congregation will be required to foot the bill, in its entirety, for the quarantine & any medical care they may require if available. https://t.co/OVWBCPQKB4

And the Lord said unto them, go forth from this place and infect the population that you may bring more death and destruction.

Previously Shuttlesworth argued that only “sissy pansy” churches shut down during a pandemic, and claimed that God would give his followers “supernatural protection” from the virus if they donated to his ministry.
Bottom line: Pastor Jonathan Shuttlesworth has announced he will defy social distancing recommendations and hold a large “outdoor Easter blowout service like Woodstock.”
