Reckless and Irresponsible: After preaching to hundreds Tuesday night, Pastor Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Central, Louisiana, taunted authorities, declaring you can’t arrest “us all.”
Pastor Spell conducted the controversial church service despite the fact that he had been charged with misdemeanors earlier that day for holding services on Sunday in violation of Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’s order banning large gatherings.
CBS News reports:
Central, Louisiana — Buses and cars filled a Louisiana church parking lot for another service Tuesday evening as worshippers flocked to hear a Louisiana pastor who is facing misdemeanor charges for holding services despite a ban on gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
CBS Baton Rouge affiliate WAFB-TV reported the service was jammed with hundreds of parishioners…
Commenting on Spell’s deplorable conduct, Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran said:
He will be held responsible for his reckless and irresponsible decisions that endangered the health of his congregation and our community. We are facing a public health crisis and expect our community’s leaders to set a positive example and follow the law.
However, a defiant Pastor Spell claims the pandemic is nothing but a “COVID hoax” and a “politically motivated scheme to shut the doors on America’s churches.”
Spell said church services would continue no matter what:
Yes, we’re gonna have service, and if I am arrested, the second man in charge will step in. If he is arrested, the third man in charge will step in. If he is arrested, the thousands of people who are members of this congregation are gonna step in, but you can’t take us all.
This is an attack on religion. This an attack on our constitutional rights. We have a constitutional right to assemble and to gather and there are no laws that I am breaking.
Spell is wrong. This is not an attack on religion. This is a global pandemic and a medical emergency. His irresponsible and reckless behavior has endangered countless lives and he should be punished. In addition, every “good Christian” who violated the governor’s order banning large gatherings should also be punished and shunned for their irresponsible and reckless behavior.
Bottom line: Pastor Tony Spell, pastor of Life Tabernacle Church in Central, Louisiana, taunted authorities, declaring you can’t arrest “us all.”
