Louisiana Megachurch Continues With Services: ‘We Are Resisting The Antichrist’

Louisiana Megachurch Continues With Services: ‘We Are Resisting The Antichrist’ April 5, 2020

Reckless and Irresponsible: Pastor Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Central, Louisiana, says he will ignore the coronavirus pandemic and will instead preach three services and bring in 27 busloads of worshipers on Sunday.

Speaking with CNN host Victor Blackwell earlier today, Pastor Spell said he was ignoring guidelines from local and national officials, saying that instead he would go ahead and hold church services at his 1,000-member Life Tabernacle megachurch despite the danger to all who attend, and the danger to all those who come into contact with all those who attend.

When asked by CNN’s Blackwell if he would go forward with church services despite the danger, Spell replied:

This morning, yes, sir, 10:00 AM. We will actually run our buses. We have 27 buses that we cover in a 50-mile radius of our city. We bring people into the house of God, feed them natural food and spiritual food and then we go right back into our respective places. It takes us about eight hours to run into service on Sunday morning and then we come back in tonight.

When asked if he believed the science demonstrating the danger of the coronavirus Spell said:

We believe the science of this, Victor. However, we do have a command from God, and there are no governing bodies that can tell us we cannot worship and gather freely.”

At one point in the interview the CNN host asked:

Let me ask you this. If you believe the science and I assume you’re pro-life, is that correct?

The pastor replied:

I am pro-life.

The CNN host then exclaimed:

How is this a pro-life stance to put people in jeopardy of contracting a disease, getting a virus that has no treatment, no cure, often has no symptoms and has killed more than 8,400 people, 1500 people this morning in our country in five weeks?!

Spell replied:

My response to that is people’s hope is in the house of God. If they do contract the virus, if they have fears of the virus, the church is more essential now than ever to pray with people, to let them know there is a physician in Jesus Christ. He is the healer; come under you all that are weary and heavy-laden, let me give you rest. We were supposed to be at a million and a half body bags and we’re at 4,800 so the narrative is false, Victor.

Previously Spell told Reuters that he would ignore the threat from the pandemic because “the church is the last force resisting the Antichrist.” Spell said:

We’re defying the rules because the commandment of God is to spread the Gospel. The church is the last force resisting the Antichrist, let us assemble regardless of what anyone says.

Last week Progressive Secular Humanist reported that after preaching to hundreds Spell taunted authorities, declaring you can’t arrest “us all.” At that time Spell had conducted a controversial church service despite the fact that he had been charged with misdemeanors earlier that day for holding services in violation of Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’s order banning large gatherings.

Bottom line: In a reckless and irresponsible move, Pastor Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Central, Louisiana, says he will ignore the coronavirus pandemic and will instead preach three services and bring in 27 busloads of worshipers to his megachurch on Sunday.
