Fascists Cheer A Fascist President: The Proud Boys and white supremacists celebrated after Donald Trump refused to condemn white supremacy and told the alt-right fascist Proud Boys gang to “stand back and stand by” at last night’s presidential debate.
The Washington Post reports:
Far-right groups celebrated on social media after President Trump responded to a debate question about white supremacists by saying that the extremist Proud Boys, a male-only group known for its penchant for street violence, should “stand back and stand by.”
Media Matters reports:
During Tuesday’s presidential debate, President Donald Trump was asked by Fox News anchor and moderator Chris Wallace to condemn white supremacist groups, and the president responded with a direct plea to the violent, neo-fascist “Proud Boys” gang, telling them to “stand back and stand by.”
New York Times reports:
Members of the Proud Boys, a far-right group that has endorsed violence, celebrated on Tuesday night after President Trump mentioned them during the first presidential debate.
Asked whether he condemned white supremacists and military groups, Mr. Trump demurred and then said, “Proud Boys — stand back and stand by.”

The only thing more disturbing than the President’s refusal to condemn white supremacy was his message to the Proud Boys to “stand by.”The FBI has stated that the #1 threat domestically to the U.S. is white supremacy. Instead of condemning the Proud Boys, (a group of white supremacist men so extreme they’ve been banned from Facebook and Twitter–a group linked to multiple murders), Trump says, “proud boys… stand by.” He sees himself as their leader. #FUCKINGVOTE https://t.co/rApT2Zppnj
