Domestic Terrorism: Four people were arrested and one suspect is still at large after armed Trump supporters stormed the Oregon State Capitol, breaking windows, assaulting journalists, and using chemical agents on state police.
The Oregonian reports:
Four people were arrested Monday in a contentious protest at the Capitol in Salem, troopers say.
Several dozen protesters gathered Monday morning outside the Capitol as part of a “nonpermitted flash mob” against COVID-19 restrictions. The event, held while Oregon’s third special legislative session of the year took place inside, was promoted by the Vancouver-based right-wing group Patriot Prayer, whose leader Joey Gibson was in attendance.
According to the Oregon State Police and multiple media reports, a group of armed protesters broke windows and stormed the capitol while the state legislature was in session on Monday. Legislators were debating Covid-19 restrictions and related public assistance in closed session. The only people permitted inside the building were members of the Salem Police Department and the Oregon State Police as well as lawmakers, staff and reporters.
The protesters, many with flak jackets, military helmets and some carrying long guns with multiple magazines, entered the capitol building at about 8:30 am. According to Salem PD, “at least one of the protesters used chemical agents on the police…OSP [Oregon State Police] used inert pepper ball, while dealing with these protestors.”
Yesterday Progressive Secular Humanist reported that armed right-wing domestic terrorists had stormed the Oregon State Capitol in Salem on Monday in an attempt to disrupt a special legislative session.
Since that report, videos of the criminal actions of the domestic terrorists have come to light. For example, these videos were shared on Reddit:
As for the arrests, The Oregonian notes:
Ronald Vanvlack, 75, and Jerry Dyerson, 53 — were arrested on suspicion of criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to the Oregon State Police.
Another demonstrator, 41-year-old Ryan Lyles, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of mace and being a felon in possession of body armor, troopers said.
Jeremiah Pruitt, 35, was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Troopers were also trying to find 40-year-old Jeremy Roberts, who authorities said tried to access the Capitol through the west door and was involved in an attack on two reporters.
Bottom line: Four people were arrested and one suspect is still at large after armed Trump supporters stormed the Oregon State Capitol, breaking windows, assaulting journalists, and using chemical agents on state police.
