Stupid for Jesus: Conservative Christian Mike Huckabee claims that thoughts and prayers are the only thing that can stop mass shootings.

The Trump-supporting former Arkansas Governor and former Republican presidential candidate wrote a blog post after the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, to promote his brand of toxic religious superstition and profound ignorance.

In his post Huckabee declared:

Despite all those who are denouncing the idea of prayers for the victims (do a Google search for “Thoughts and prayers are not enough” and see how many hits you get), I will continue to pray for the victims and their families and for an end to this mindless violence, and I hope you will, too.

In fact, … I would posit that the lack of thoughts and prayers is probably the single biggest factor in what is behind them.

The stupid, it burns.

For the record, thoughts and prayers will accomplish nothing. Prayers will not stop bullets. Prayers will not change the gun laws. Prayers will not change the culture of the gun that plagues the U.S. Prayers will not stop the terrorist organization known as the NRA.

Prayers are nothing but spiritual masturbation: they might make the person doing the praying feel a little better, but prayers do nothing to effect change in the real world.

As a nation we live with and tolerate a culture of gun violence. All the while any proposal to enact sensible reform to curb gun violence is squashed by the the NRA and the attending all powerful gun lobby.

Indeed, the NRA and the gun lobby intimidates and bullies politicians, while spreading deception and misinformation to the general public. They are the equivalent of the 20th century tobacco lobby, merchants of death, claiming their product is safe while countless Americans die.

The fact is America has a fetish for guns, and that perverse fetish for guns will not be cured by thoughts and prayers.

As for Huckabee, it is no secret that  he is a dangerous and deranged Christian extremist. In the past Huckabee promised that if elected president he would fight the “secular theocracy” that is supposedly destroying Christian liberty in America; made the false claim that pastors would face civil and criminal penalties if they refused to perform same-sex marriage; and said if elected president he would ignore the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality because the Supreme Court is not the “Supreme Being.”

Indeed, the man is a monster. In 2015 this radical Christian extremist suggested that poor people convicted of nonviolent crimes should be sold into slavery, arguing that Biblical slavery is preferable to the contemporary criminal justice system.

Bottom line: Conservative Christian Mike Huckabee claims that thoughts and prayers are the only thing that can stop mass shootings.

Gay-hating, intolerant, and mean-spirited conservative Christian Mike Huckabee claims LGBTQ people are “the biggest threat” to American morality.

Huckabee, a Christian minister who served as the 44th governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007, and who also ran as a candidate in the United States Republican presidential primaries in both 2008 and 2016, is the father of current White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and a confirmed anti-gay bigot.

Speaking with The Christian Post during a sit-down interview last week in Anaheim, California, Huckabee blamed Christian churches for their “failure to apply a biblical standard of maleness and femaleness.” Huckabee said:

The biggest threat to biblical principles today is the failure to apply a biblical standard of maleness and femaleness.

Huckabee continued:

We are creating this illusion that there is no gender, there is no identity, and I’m blaming the Christian Church.

The anti-gay conservative Christian went on to blame California’s introduction of “no-fault divorce” in 1970 for the decline of “biblical marriage” and rigidly defined gender roles. Huckabee explained:

That’s when we first started losing that sense of sacredness of what marriage meant. So I’m not really that surprised that same sex-marriage has become in vogue because the Christian Church were the ones who essentially abdicated a strict responsibility about what biblical marriage should look like.

Huckabee added:

Once you’ve destroyed that, why can’t you have any and everything? The gender dysphoria we’re seeing today is largely due to the fact that the Church has failed to present very clearly the words of Jesus and Genesis 5:2: ‘Male and female He created them.’

It is no secret that Huckabee is a dangerous and ignorant Christian extremist.

Bottom line: Conservative Christian Mike Huckabee claims LGBTQ people are “the biggest threat” to American morality.

Despite evidence to the contrary, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee claims he never supported Josh Duggar.

During a recent interview with Iowa radio host Simon Conway, Huckabee was asked how he could continue to stand by Josh Duggar after it was revealed Duggar had sexually molested his younger sisters and a young neighbor while he was still a teenager.

Yet despite public posts Huckabee made in support of the disgraced former reality TV star and former conservative Christian darling, the Republican presidential candidate claimed that he never defended or supported the oldest son in the 19 Kids and Counting family. Huckabee said:

I really didn’t support Josh. I supported his parents, if you’ll go back and look at what I said. There’s no support for what he did…I think in subsequent months, as more things came out, what he did was despicable, it was dishonest. He did some things that totally defy everything he supposedly stood for. But he certainly defied what his parents not only have stood for, but continue to. So my support was for his sisters, who were the real victims, I felt like they were being exploited by the media. The media didn’t care what was happening to them and the emotional trauma they were going through.

I’ve never defended Josh and I don’t defend him now because there’s nothing to defend. What he did was absolutely hideously wrong and despicable.

However, in a May 22 Facebook post, Huckabee in fact offered his support for Josh Duggar and his family after Duggar admitted to his history of child molestation and the sexual abuse he committed against his underage sisters. Huckabee wrote:

Janet and I want to affirm our support for the Duggar family. Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable.’ He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things.

Huckabee continues:

The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today’s blood-thirsty media does not understand—that being a minor means that one’s judgement is not mature. No one needs to defend Josh’s actions as a teenager, but the fact that he confessed his sins to those he harmed, sought help, and has gone forward to live a responsible and circumspect life as an adult is testament to his family’s authenticity and humility.

Huckabee’s claim that he never defended or supported Josh Duggar is dishonest. The fact is, Huckabee released a public Facebook post minimizing Duggar’s abusive behavior. Huckabee defended the sexual assault of children as the result of the immature judgment of a minor while characterizing the heinous abuse as a childhood indiscretion.

Bottom line: Huckabee did offer his support to Duggar, and to say otherwise is simply dishonest.

Sweet baby Jesus: Mike Huckabee says poor people convicted of nonviolent crimes should be sold into slavery, because the Bible.

The former Arkansas Governor and Republican presidential candidate  endorsed “biblical” slavery over the modern prison system on Wednesday’s edition of “Mickelson in the Morning,”  a leading conservative Iowa radio program.

ThinkProgress reports.

Host Jan Mickelson began by bemoaning that the “criminal justice system has been taken over by progressives.” In order to fight back, he argued, conservatives should look to the biblical Book of Exodus. “It says, if a person steals, they have to pay it back two-fold, four-fold,” Mickelson explained. “If they don’t have anything, we’re supposed to take them down and sell them.”

Mickelson went on to argue why jails, which he claimed are a “pagan invention,” are inferior to slavery: “We indenture them and they have to spend their time not sitting on their stump in a jail cell, they’re supposed to be working off the debt.”

“Wouldn’t that be a better choice?” the host asked.

“Well, it really would be… Sometimes the best way to deal with a nonviolent criminal behavior is what you just suggested.”

That’s right, Huckabee says Biblical slavery is preferable to the contemporary criminal justice system. ThinkProgress notes:

Huckabee’s comments … appear to be the first time in modern history that a credible presidential candidate has joined the fringe call to reinstate slavery.

It is no secret that Huckabee is a Christian extremist. In the recent past Huckabee promised that if elected president he would fight the “secular theocracy” that is supposedly destroying Christian liberty in America; made the false claim that pastors would face civil and criminal penalties if they refused to perform same-sex marriage; and said if elected president he would ignore the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality because the Supreme Court is not the “Supreme Being.”

More of that Christian love: GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee makes a racist joke at Asians’ expense while live tweeting the Democratic presidential debate Tuesday night.

In a pathetic attempt to attack Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, Huckabee tweeted:

I trust Bernie Sanders with my tax dollars like I trust a North Korean chef with my labrador!

Moments before a clueless Huckabee had tweeted:

Racism exists because we have a sin problem in America, not a skin problem.

In short, the obtuse Huckabee first says “racism is bad” and then says “let me tell you a racist joke.”

As one might expect, the internet exploded as progressives and other sensible people rushed to condemn Huckabee’s insensitive and racist tweet.

Making matters much worse is the fact that Huckabee’s son once tortured and killed a stray dog for fun while working at a Boy Scout camp.

David Huckabee, the youngest son of Mike Huckabee, tortured and killed a dog for fun on July 11, 1998. David Huckabee was 17 at the time of the crime, and was working at a Boy Scout camp when he and 19-year-old Clayton Frady killed the stray dog.

Witness reports indicate Frady and Huckabee hanged the poor canine, slit its throat, and stoned it to death. However, while both were fired from their job at the Boy Scout camp, neither faced prosecution because Mike Huckabee was governor of Arkansas at the time, and shielded his son and his son’s accomplice from criminal prosecution.

In an angry rant Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee suggests President Obama is not a Christian, but only pretending to be a Christian.

Huckabee made his claim while appearing on Newsmax TV’s “The Hard Line” on Tuesday. When asked about Ben Carson’s comments that a Muslim should not be president of the United States, the former Arkansas governor refused to criticize his rival’s blatant anti-Muslim bigotry, but did admit that there is no religious test for public office, which is correct. Huckabee said:

There is no religious test for a person to hold public office in America. I’m less concerned about what faith a person has, I’m more concerned about the authenticity of their faith and how that plays out in their policies.

Huckabee then shifted his focus to President Obama, suggesting that the president is only pretending to be a Christian:

I’m also concerned about a guy that believes he’s a Christian and pretends to be and then says he is, but does things that makes it very difficult for people to practice their Christian faith.

I’m disappointed if a person says, ‘I’m a Christian,’ but you invite the Pope into your home and then you invite a whole bunch of people who are at odds with the Catholic Church policy. I think there’s something very unseemly about that.

Huckabee is angry that Obama administration invited LGBT activists and abortion supporters to a White House reception to honor Pope Francis. In a statement issued Monday Huckabee said:

President Obama’s classless decision to transform Pope Francis’ visit to the White House into a politicized cattle call for gay and pro-abortion activists is an insult to millions of Catholics.

Why is it that Obama goes to extremes to accommodate Muslim terrorists but shows nothing but disdain for Christians? This is a new low for an administration that will go down as the most anti-Christian in American history.

And today Huckabee combined his concern for anti-gay Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis and the Pope’s visit to the White House in a bizarre and misguided attack on Obama via Vine:

Huckabee is an angry conservative Christian extremist, and Obama is a moderate progressive Christian. While it might be nice to imagine that Obama is secretly an atheist, the fact is we must accept people at their word. If someone says they are a Christian, they are a Christian. If someone says they are a Muslim, they are a Muslim. And if someone says they are an atheist, they are an atheist.

Bottom line: President Obama says he is a Christian, therefore, he is a Christian.

Dreams of persecution: Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is stoking the fears and paranoia of conservative Christians with wild eyed tales of civil and criminal penalties for Christian pastors who refuse to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies.

Speaking to a group of conservative pastors in a conference call organized by the Christian hate group the Family Research Council, Huckabee lied to his audience of Christian extremists by claiming that pastors would face civil and criminal penalties if they refused to perform same-sex marriage:

If the courts rule that people have a civil right not only to be a homosexual but a civil right to have a homosexual marriage, then a homosexual couple coming to a pastor who believes in biblical marriage who says ‘I can’t perform that wedding’ will now be breaking the law.

It’s not just saying, ‘I’m sorry you have a preference.’ No, you will be breaking the law subject to civil for sure and possible criminal penalties for violating the law…. If you do practice biblical convictions and you carry them out and you do what you’ve been led by the spirit of God to do, your behavior will be criminal.

As Right Wing Watch notes, Huckabee’s claim is “categorically untrue,” a claim “that has not materialized in any of the dozens of states where marriage equality has been adopted.”

Huckabee also said:

I think it’s fair to say that Christian convictions are under attack as never before. Not just in our lifetime, but ever before in the history of this great nation. We are moving rapidly toward the criminalization of Christianity.

Brave Mike Huckabee, a noble Christian martyr, fighting the gays for God and country, and defending the poor persecuted Christian majority </sarcasm>.

Christian fantasies of martyrdom and persecution over same-sex marriage are ridiculous. The fact that Huckabee and other mean-spirited conservative Christians feel threatened by the possibility that gays and lesbians may one day be free to marry who they love serves as a ringing condemnation of both their faith and their character.

Christian nation? Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee promises that if elected president he will fight the “secular theocracy” that is supposedly destroying Christian liberty in America.

Appearing on today’s episode of James Robison’s Life Today television program, Huckabee said that if he was elected president he would have “God’s blessing” to fight the so-called “secular theocracy” that has been imposed upon the American people by atheists and humanists.

On the program, the host, televangelist James Robinson, declared:

We have a theocracy right now. It’s a secular theocracy!… Forced on us!

An excited Huckabee replied:

That’s it! It is a humanistic, secular, atheistic, and even antagonistic toward Christian faith, and that’s what we need to understand. Our basic fundamental rights are being robbed from us, taken from us, piece by piece.

Previously on the program Huckabee argued:

We’ve divorced ourselves from an understanding that we cannot survive as a republic if we do not become once again a God-centered nation that understands that our laws do not come from man, they come from God. It is the natural law of God.

About being president Huckabee said:

The only thing worse than not being elected president would be to be elected president without God’s blessing. I can’t think of a worse place in the world to be than in the Oval Office without God’s hand upon you. I’d rather not get near the place.

In fairness, Huckabee did say on the program that he was not in favor of a Christian theocracy. However, given his previous statements and positions, a reasonable person could come to the conclusion that Huckabee may not be sincere in making that particular claim, and that in reality he does seem to favor some sort of Christian theocracy.

Anti-gay Christian conservative and Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee denies he is homophobic, and denies he is a hater, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

In his keynote address to the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition earlier this week Huckabee blamed God for his opposition to marriage equality and his anti-gay rhetoric, and in so doing made the somewhat absurd claim that God wrote the Bible:

I’m not against anybody. I’m really not. I’m not a hater. I’m not homophobic. I honestly don’t care what people do personally in their individual lives. But when people say, ‘Why don’t you just kind of get on the right side of history?’ I said, ‘You’ve got to understand, this for me is not about the right side or the wrong side of history, this is the right side of the Bible, and unless God rewrites it, edits it, sends it down with his signature on it, it’s not my book to change.’ Folks, that’s why I stand where I stand.

Huckabee’s Biblical justification for his homophobia and hatred is hypocritical, typical of the anti-gay conservative Christian. If Huckabee and other hateful, anti-gay Christians were serious about being on the “right side of the Bible” they would be making laws addressing adultery, eating shellfish and wearing mixed fabrics. The fact that the only Old Testament law Huckabee wants to enforce is the one regarding gay people speaks volumes, and does little to honor his professed devotion to the Bible.

Huckabee’s bigotry is echoed by the Republican party at large. Think Progress reports that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus believes his party should take its cues on social issues from Huckabee. On LGBT issues, he has said that homosexuality poses a “dangerous public health risk,” that it’s a sin comparable to lying and stealing, that it will lead to polygamy and bigamy, and that gay men are more likely to sexually abuse children.

For the record, when you work to deny a class of people basic human rights, you are a hater. When you oppose marriage equality for the LGBT community, you are homophobic.

A Virginia restaurant refused to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders because she chooses to works for President Trump.

CBS News reports:

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was told to leave a Lexington, Va., restaurant Friday night, she said on Twitter Saturday morning. Sanders said the owner of the Red Hen in the Shenandoah Valley asked her to leave because she works for President Trump.

On Saturday morning the White House press secretary tweeted:

Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so

Also on Twitter, Sanders’ father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, defended his daughter, and complained that the owners of Red Hen restaurant were being intolerant. Huckabee tweeted:

Bigotry. On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the “Hate Plate”.  And appetizers are “small plates for small minds.

Note: The irony of Mike Huckabee, a gay-hating, intolerant, and mean-spirited conservative Christian, complaining about intolerance and bigotry, is beyond measure.

However, while Sanders’ father defended his deplorable daughter, many others showed little sympathy for Trump’s press secretary:

Commenting on the story, The Hill reports Sanders is the third Trump administration official to be targeted at a restaurant in recent days, in addition to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and White House senior adviser Stephen Miller.

Last week Sanders and other Trump administration officials defended the president’s draconian and deplorable policy of separating children from their parents at the border, which caused a great deal of public anger and backlash.

In fact, adding insult to injury, both White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Attorney General Jeff Sessions used the Bible to justify and defend the cruel and despicable policy.

Bottom line: Displaying moral courage, and acting out of moral conviction, a Virginia restaurant refused to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders because she chooses to work and speak for President Donald Trump, and in so doing she promotes and supports his anti-American and immoral agenda of white supremacy and Christian theocracy.
