Welcome to the Morning Buzz, PRRI’s morning dose of religion-related news with a shot of data – because what doesn’t liven up a morning round-up like some public opinion numbers? 

For the past 24 hours, anyone trying to write about anything but health care reform has been hard pressed to get a word in edgewise. I hope none of you are sick of rehashing the decision, because today’s Buzz is going to be all about Obamacare. And if you missed it, we just released a new survey exploring Americans’ opinions about whether the Supreme Court should overturn the health care law.

And for those of you who need sustenance before diving back into the complicated events of yesterday, here’s are some delicious-looking recipes for summer fruit.

First, the reactions. Legal scholars were shocked (ish). GOP representative Jack Kingston took to Twitter to bemoan the loss of two great friends: America and John Roberts. Jewish groups praised the ruling. The Catholic bishops excoriated it, but the Catholic Health Association reiterated its support for the health care reform law.

If you were a bit perplexed by CNN’s coverage of the decision, don’t feel too bad – it seems that President Obama was similarly confused. Oh, and Fox News got it wrong too.

Republicans began to get revved up against the ruling. On our blog, we posted a graphic that lends some ballast to the notion that the ruling could galvanize the Tea Party, which has been somewhat quiet during much of the 2012 presidential campaign.

And then the rumors began to fly: did Chief Justice Roberts switch his vote at the last minute?

Of course, there was also a meme.

Meanwhile, another Supreme Court decision was announced and swiftly forgotten. But for those of you who have lied (or are planning to lie) about having military honors, know that your fibs are protected speech.
