Welcome to the Morning Buzz, PRRI’s morning dose of religion-related news with a shot of data – because what doesn’t liven up a morning round-up like some public opinion numbers? Apparently NPR is as enamored of pie as I am, because they have yet another article on the mouthwatering dessert – this time, exploring the creative ways that cash-strapped cooks have filled their “desperation pies.” Who knew you could make lemon meringue pie with vinegar?

Republican leaders began to criticize Mitt Romney this week, with a high-profile editorial in the Wall Street Journal declaring that Romney is “slowly squandering” the opportunity to defeat a weak incumbent.

It looks like Democrats and Republicans can agree on one thing: the four months until the end of the presidential campaign will be exhausting. It’s telling, also that Independents are far more likely to say the election season will be exhausting and annoying, rather than informative and exciting. Aren’t they the people who decide the election, or something?

According to the National Review, this was a summer of compromise for Congress – but that’s about to change.
