I strive to never let a day go by that I do not allow my bare feet to feel the earth beneath my feet. There is something about your bare feet walking upon the surface of this planet that is like your skin touching the skin of your closest friend as you walk. I do not wish to be of some city with paved streets. It is out in the wild where I feel most alive. It is out there that I can feel the energy of all creation and feel the Creator’s blood as it pumps through every living thing I touch, for he has truly connected all things. His breath is in the wind. His embrace is felt in the warmth of the Great Light as it shines upon us. His heartbeat is one with ours as our feet walk upon the surface of Earth-like the beating upon the skin of a drum. We see his smile in the night when the moon is upon its final phase. He waves at us from the wings of the eagle and the dove. He sings to us from every babbling brook and the wind in the trees and the crackling of the fire. His blood flows through ours as we feed upon the food he has given from his own hand.

What could be better than laying in the grass on a sunny day with a breeze blowing gently with a piece of grass stuck in your mouth just passing the time imagining pictures in the clouds? What about walking barefoot in the nice soft grass or sticking your toes in the sand on the beach? There is just something very satisfying about feeling the earth beneath your feet. And there is actually a science to it called ‘grounding’ that seems to verify that our bodies need this connection to Earth.

The earth beneath our feet is nothing to take for granted. Indeed, it is a shame that so much of the earth is just covered with asphalt. Yet without the earth and soil, we would all starve because that is where our food grows. Ask any gardener what a joy it is to nurture and grow flowers and food from the earth.

The Creator could have just spoken us into existence like he did everything else but instead, he hand-formed us in his image. It was evident from the start that he had something special in mind for us. Have you ever thought about it that way? We are connected to the creation in a way that is unlike anything he ever created! Have you ever thought about how connected all things are to one another?

“You compass my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, you know it altogether. You have beset me behind and before and laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain to it. Whither shall I go from your spirit? or whither shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, you are there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.”
Psalms 139:3-10

We are all connected to the Creator more intimately than I think we can ever comprehend. As we abide in him we are part of that grand design. If we depart from the light then in light’s absence the darkness becomes our guide. And darkness is a blind guide that only leads to more darkness until it overtakes you. Listen to the voice of the Creator. He speaks in every breath of every living thing. He has planted every plant but have you ever thought about what he has planted in you? Have you taken time to meditate and hear the voice he casts upon the wind? Have you heard his roar in the waterfall and the water that flows? Call him God, Creator, Great Spirit….whatever you will, but know he has appeared in various forms and continues to do so. There are times he is so personal that we can bask in his presence and sit at his feet but you must also learn to recognize his presence all about you. He surrounds and inhabits us all. Learn to practice his presence and hear his breath on the wind and his voice in the sound of the brook or the leaves that crackle across the ground beneath your feet.  All attempts to describe him or attach a name to him will always fall short of who he is. He is neither male nor female, two-legged or four-legged, human or any other creature and yet he is all of these things and more. He is Spirit and if you are to truly know him you must approach him in spirit and truth.

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

Be aware always and do not draw back in surprise at the breeze that suddenly travels through the great hall of your mind and soul or the whisper of the wind in the trees wondering what it is but know it is only his presence for it is not possible for him to be present and not cause some effect and he is present always and in every place. We are scooped from the earth, formed by his hands, his very spirit and the spirit of all living things dwell in us and connects us to all things.

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.”
Job 12:7-10

Are you beginning to see the connection we have to all of creation? When we were scooped from the earth and formed it was the beginning of something amazing! He breathed in us. He still breathes in us and speaks to us. The Creator’s voice is a constant reference point for creation of how things are supposed to be and what will ultimately benefit all that he has created and keep it living harmoniously and balanced and ultimately satisfying all our needs without taking away from anything else’s needs in creation.

If we could only realize how spiritually connected all things are. We are all but physical manifestations of the Creator. How sad that there are so many that try to make sense of the things in this world with only their physical senses. It can’t be done! It only frustrates a situation more and only brings the living death of stress and fear. If there is even to be a chance of success understanding something it must start from a spiritual level and then emanate outward to what must be done in the mental and physical realm. We are spirit beings who live in a physical body. We are not physical beings who have a spirit. This distinction is so important and will go far in understanding all things. It will revolutionize how you think and react.

“Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you…” Matthew 13:11.

This was God’s intention from the beginning. He wanted us to be connected to him and his creation. He never meant for his created beings to only hear his voice from a screaming man in a pulpit. He speaks and every time we hear his voice or understand a thing we are like good ground receiving seed. But so often, we let his voice get drowned out by the toils and worries of this life, the distractions of this life, or pushing the word he wants to place in us to become somehow less attractive than the wealth and lusts of this world. The very earth speaks and cries out to us. It is up to us to listen for its voice. It does not scream from the billboard or TV it still whispers.

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21

Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

I hope you are enjoying this series. Next time we look at spiritual dimensions of Earth. I also cover all four elements in my book FIRE WATER EARTH AIR.
