How John Locke Can Kill The Smoke Monster

How John Locke Can Kill The Smoke Monster

I think I may have an idea about where LOST is going. In the orientation video for the Orchid Station, Dr. Pierre Chang demonstrated the possibility of bringing a white rabbit through time, with the result that there were two copies of the rabbit – the present one and one from the past or future – both now in the same time. He also seemed to consider it extremely important that they be kept separate. In the subsequent time-travelling of the characters, they never encountered themselves (perhaps Daniel Faraday came the closest, meeting his pregnant mother). Presumably doing so would be bad – in a more severe sense than in TimeCop.

The creation of a parallel timeline creates another possibility for the same person to intersect with themselves in a similar way. And so it may turn out that John Locke, who believed himself special, and was manipulated for selfish ends, may in fact show up from the parallel timeline somehow and manage to save the world, sacrificing himself to destroy the smoke monster – assuming there is enough of him left in the smoke monster for it to be “John Locke meeting himself” in any meaningful sense.

What do others think? This theory may turn out to be invalidated by tonight’s episode, of course…
