Return to a Chastened Modernism

Return to a Chastened Modernism

I know I already shared a “quote of the day” but these words from Ken Schenck seemed worth passing along:

“Postmodernism as it has trickled down to the common person has been used to legitimize tribalism of all sorts, and only a return to a chastened modernism and sense of objectivity will give us an intellectual path out of our hobbled thinking.”
I have long felt unhappy being categorized either as a modernist or a postmodernist, preferring the mediating stance of “critical realism.” But I could see myself being quite happy as a member of a “Society of Chastened Modernists.” What about you?
