The Doctor is in. Doctor Who has returned with a new regeneration (played by Matt Smith), a new companion (Amy Pond, or Amelia Pond, played by Karen Gillan, who previously appeared as a guest star on the episode โFires of Pompeiiโ), a new TARDIS control room, but the same penchant for missed appointments. As with other series since Dr. Who received a new lease on life with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, there were allusions to mysteries that presumably will wind like threads through the season, if not indeed beyond, as โBad Wolfโ and the prophecy about the Doctorโs death did in earlier seasons.
First episodes with a new Doctor are always a bit awkward, and this tends to by symbolized by the Doctorโs own awkwardness as he adjusts to his new body right along with us. Although lacking somewhat in originality, the โDoctor as Tiggerโ sequence eventually grew on me.
Welcome back, Doctor!
