Religion and Science Halos

Religion and Science Halos

Arni Zachariassen shared a cartoon from Mikey Burton. Burton labelled it as comparing a good student to a smart one, but Arni interpreted it in terms of โ€œreligion and science.โ€ What does it suggest to you?

The cartoon originally appeared accompanying an op-ed in the New York Times about how students are rewarded (or not) for effort, meeting deadlines, etc.

ย I can think of at least two other things the cartoon might suggest. On the one hand, I notice that the religious individualโ€™s hair is standing on end. While it might just be due to significant amounts of gel, it could also illustrate the heart of the โ€œreligious senseโ€ โ€“ which a great many scientists share โ€“ as awe.

But his hair standing on end could also indicate that the other guy was carrying a static charge and just shocked himโ€ฆ
