Marcus Borg to speak at Franklin College

INTERNATIONAL BIBLICAL SCHOLAR TO SPEAK AT FRANKLIN COLLEGE 2010-11 FAITH-BASED LECTURE SERIES

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Dr. Marcus Borg will present “Telling the Story of Jesus Today,” Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Branigin Room of the Napolitan Student Center as part of the college’s 2010-11 faith-based Convocation Lecture Series.

Borg is the Canon Theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. He is internationally known in both academic and church circles as a biblical and Jesus scholar.

Borg was the Hundere Chair of Religion and Culture in the Philosophy Department at Oregon State University. Also, as a Fellow of the Jesus Seminar, he has been the national chair of the Historical Jesus Section of the Society of Biblical Literature and co-chair of its International New Testament Program Committee.

He has appeared on NBC’s “Today Show” and “Dateline,” PBS’s “Newshour,” ABC’s “Evening News” and “Prime Time” with Peter Jennings, NPR’s “Fresh Air” with Terry Gross, and several National Geographic programs.

As an author, Borg has written over 19 books and co-authored numerous other works, which have been translated into 11 languages. He holds a doctorate from Oxford University.

The lecture is free and no ticket is required to attend, although seating will be limited.
