FORDHAM UNIVERSITY, Department of Theology, invites applications for two tenure track positions, beginning Fall 2012, at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of History of Christianity. One has a research area in Modern Protestant Theology; candidates should be conversant with theoretical and historiographical issues in the study of modernity and be able to bring modern Protestant theological traditions into conversation with other areas in Christian theology. One has a research area in Medieval Mysticism; candidates should be able to bridge the mystical/spiritual insights of a major figure, practice or movement with the popular religious traditions of the period, be conversant with theoretical and historiographical questions in the study of the Middle Ages, and be able to bring medieval theological traditions into conversation with other areas in Christian theology and medieval studies; co-appointment in the Medieval Studies Program is available to the successful candidate.

Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses and mentoring of doctoral students, as well as undergraduate general education courses in theology and upper level majors’ and elective courses in theology. Ph.D. required. Competitive compensation; ordinary teaching load is five courses per year. A one semester pre-tenure research leave with full pay can ordinarily be applied for in the third year. Teaching experience in historical theology and academic publication record preferred.
