Rock Mass

Rock Mass

I found myself wondering recently whether the necessary components for a mass in rock style are available. Below are songs which have the right titles and are not a world away in their themes. But are there other songs, and ones perhaps more suited for this purpose, than the ones below? I wonder what it would be like to try incorporating these into a worship service. And would there be any interest in someone writing an actual rock mass? Or has it been done, and I just don't know about it?

Kyrie (Mr. Mister)

Gloria (U2)

Credo (Fish)

Agnus Dei (Michael W. Smith)

There aren't a lot of songs actually called โ€œCredo.โ€ But there is an abundance that are called โ€œI believe,โ€ and some of those might be considered for inclusion: songs by Blessid Union of Souls and Tears for Fears, for instance, and for some the one from The Book of Mormon musical might also be an option. There's also a Credo by Kjartan Sveinsson, formerly of Sigur Rรณs, but it isn't really in a rock style. And for Japanese speakers, there is one by Ayaka. But none strikes me as clearly preferable to โ€œCredoโ€ by Fish.

If you are looking to try to get all the proper components, that is more challenging. This seems to be the only rock song called Sanctus that is not totally inappropriateโ€ฆ
