This is the song that sparked off my recent bit of songwriting. I reworked the melody for this recording, having revised it multiple times already because I wrote it in a range that few people can sing in, least of all me. I hope to have at least one version to share in the near future with someone else singing the lead vocals, so that you can hear it as I imagine it in my head, and not merely in the best rendition I can offer with myself singing.
Here are the lyrics:
Reality (In You I Live)
Music and lyrics by James F. McGrath

You are a puzzle that I can’t put together
You are a shelter in every kind of weather
But rain still falls, so all in all, my words are just a picture
Of one I can’t express, but still you’re there.
You are a strong wind that blows in all directions
You are a deep well that mirrors my reflection
But there within I find again, there’s water to refresh me
And when your wind fills my sails, I’m on my way.
CHORUS:
In you I live
In you I move
In you I am
On you I stand
There is nowhere else to be
Than in you – all encompassing Reality
You are a dark night that won’t reveal its mysteries
You are a bright light that shines through all of history
But when I think in black and white, I find that you resist me
But there within the grays I find there’s grace
CHORUS:
In you I live
In you I move
In you I am
On you I stand
There is nowhere else to be
Than in you – all encompassing Reality
And if upon a starlit night I revel in your glory
Still there is so much I cannot see
All-encompassing Reality
