iOS Mail and Outlook Apps: Just in the Nick of Time

iOS Mail and Outlook Apps: Just in the Nick of Time February 1, 2015

iOS Outlook iconI have been getting the sense that I am not alone among iPad users in having had my e-mail suddenly stop working. I suspect that it is somehow connected with the upgrade to iOS 8.1.3. It tries to load, and then goes blank. The built-in mail app had been crashing quite often even before the upgrade, since I am on an iPad 2 and iOS as well as various specific apps have continued to evolve in ways thatย leave this device seeming increasingly obsolete. But now it will not work at all. I have tried deleting the account and re-adding it, but that didnโ€™t solve the problem.

Just in the nick of time, Microsoft has released an Outlook app of its own. Iโ€™ve only just begun trying it out. One of the first things I did was switch off the โ€œfocused e-mailโ€ feature whichย categorizes and separates your mail automatically. But it works. And so if you have been experiencing an issue with mail on your iPad since the latest iOS update, this is a fairly quick fix solution.

I will also note that some have expressed security concerns about the app, but the issues relate to Microsoft storing your credentialsย rather than some other sort of security weakness or issue. And if your iPad is essential to your productivity, and the built-in mail app no longer works, this seems to provide an essential solution.
