I’m hoping it is Pheobe Waller-Bridge. I fear it will be Kris Marshall

PWB has said it’s not her. Perhaps she’s dissembling. Kris Marshall would be awful. Of the other names raised recently I can’t imagine Jodie Whittaker in the role, and I totally can imagine Tilda Swinton as an amazing Doctor and would be thrilled to see it (but I would be shocked if that’s who they announced).

Turns out you should have imagined Jodie Whittaker. 🙂

Personally, once Chibnall was announced, I looked at the Broadchurch cast to see if there was anyone likely for him to pick, and thought that it was a straight choice* between Andrew Buchan and Jodie Whittaker, and that the BBC wouldn’t let him pick Whittaker. I’m so glad to have been wrong.

*OK, so Olivia Coleman would have been the obvious choice…

I think JW is a great actress and perhaps I discounted her too quickly. But to date in almost everything I’ve seen her in she’s been the “Kaylee” character – someone played to evoke sympathy. Not really Doctor-like. Looking forward to the new series though, and enjoyed the 60 second reveal clip.

Funny thing two licensed stories had the Doctor do a gender swap a long time ago. ( ) Given the Master -> Missy transformation we should a have know they make it official somewhere down the line.

The short lived Dare Sensei webcomic which had all the sex roles reversed and the various incarnations of the Doctor various famous anime characters. There was a promotional work that shows who all the previous versions were but it doesn’t seem to have been archived.
