Although I’m currently undergoing a spam attack, giving in to a bully only encourages them to carry on with their bullying. And since this particular bully has made clear that his aim is to get me to switch on comment moderation, that’s obviously the one thing that I must absolutely not do. But I can apologize if anyone who subscribes to comments gets some of that spam in their inbox. Comments of this sort obviously will disappear from the blog... Read more

This is the title of a typical incendiary blog post [It is also a link to the post in question] This is the place where I comment on it and explain what you should expect to find there. HT This is where I give credit to the person who pointed me to that blog post Read more

When language learning CDs and mp3s are produced in the future, will they break them up into chunks, so that it is easy and convenient to skip back and listen to a small selection of vocabulary again? Some already do this, but some seem to still think they are making audio cassettes for use with a rewind button. (Presumably it won’t be long until CDs don’t figure into the equation any longer anyway). When will we be able to interface... Read more

Does the Bible “teach” geocentrism? I’m glad that Joel Watts is taking the time to argue the case that it does. But I’d like to suggest that that’s not the best way to phrase the question. The Biblical literature was entirely composed in contexts where geocentrism was accepted as true, and it is worth noting that at the very least it never challenges geocentrism directly or explicitly. If something is written in a context in which X is assumed to... Read more

Two videos were shared on blogs I read, neither of which I have time to watch right now, but both of which sound like they will be worth coming back to. So I’m posting them here both for your benefit and mine, as things for me to come back to later. First, there’s Wolfart Pannenberg on God and Science (HT Theomusings in SoCal): http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7727142&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0 And second, there’s Gordon Kauffman on God as creative mystery (HT Walking Gently Through The World): Read more

Phil Plait is among the latest to comment on the Geocentrism conference to be held in Indiana. In addition to explaining what is wrong with Geocentrism, Phil also included an image that I wanted to share (on the right). The image is available for T-shirts. If someone wants to buy me one, I’ll wear it proudly. And they also have other cool shirts, including this one which ties in with another recent post here… Read more

Has anyone ever suggested that the phrase “I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day” in Revelation 1:10 might be a euphemism for “I fell asleep in church”? Read more

I often ask students, in the context of discussing Genesis 2-3, what they think would happen if, walking down the hall later that day, they saw a big red button that said “DO NOT PUSH!” Most felt sure that someone would push it at some point. We then talk about the depictions of human beings in the Genesis creation stories as analyses of what human beings are like, rather than as attempts to describe what two particular individuals in the... Read more
